Introducing a new, ongoing collaborative workshop series, ‘Women In Food’.
The idea was born out of the realm of where ideas usually come from, a lack of something. While there are increasingly more women being recognised as successful artists, cooks, sommeliers, or specialists in any given field, we’re still often under valued, under appreciated and under exposed.
So, as a woman-ran project, we’re (naturally) super keen to work with anyone who identifies as a woman and loves all aspects of food & drink as much as we do, shaping & moulding a weekend to show what they do best. An exclusive, intimate experience with a unique perspective.
In our very first collaboration, we invited multi-disciplinary artist Inês Neto dos Santos to host a weekend workshop. She chose the theme ‘Collective gestures: amulets’, where guests will be exploring the concept of amulets, weaving together practices of walking, plant-observation, writing, object-making and cooking.
Inês explains, “this workshop aims to investigate the significance of an amulet, or pocket-object, as a holder of meaning, a container for memory, story-telling and relationship to place. Recognising our experience of memory, place and time as non-linear and profoundly ephemeral, we will explore the construction of our own amulets, using perishable materials. What is an amulet, and what does it mean to construct one that is edible, compostable or temporary?
Whilst departing from individual experience, through our activities we will explore what it means to think collectively, tapping into our inevitably intertwined existence in the world.
Over the weekend, we will engage in a series of collective gestures: to eat, write, walk, draw and make together, with our hands and minds.”
The theme will be interwoven throughout the whole weekend, exploring the idea of collectiveness & individualism through an immersive dinner and workshop the following day.
