It was a lovely change of scenery today, driving down from El Cine to Nerja. The sun was bright, and I managed a really enjoyable 12km walk, covering the town from one end to the other and back again. It's a great spot for strolling, and a perfect seaside destination.

Back in the Andalusian Sun!

I returned to El Cine last Tuesday, but today—Sunday, October 12th—was my first trip down to the sea!

Torre del Mar was basked in sunshine. It was fantastic to change the mountain views for the blue Mediterranean.

I spent the afternoon soaking up the sights, sounds, and flavours of the coast:

Beach Life: The beach was still wonderfully lively with sunbathers enjoying the late-season warmth, palm trees swaying, and the Sierra Nevada backdrop hazy in the distance.

A Taste of Málaga: You can't visit the coast without experiencing the delicious espetos! Watching those fresh sardines and seafood skewers—including prawns, squid, and sea bass—being grilled over the wood fire in the barca (boat) was pure magic.

Unexpected Entertainment: I loved catching the impromptu show featuring a beautiful Flamenco dancer in her striking yellow-and-black dress and a brilliant musician on the electronic drum pad, bringing the plaza to life.

Local Wildlife: Even the local parrots (monk parakeets) came down to say hello! These birds are always a reminder that you're in a truly special part of the world.

Places to visit from El Cine - Yesterday, Debra, Kevin, Janet and I had the pleasure of visiting the stunning Bodegas Bentomiz, just a 10-minute drive from El Cine off the road to Sayalonga. Our adventure began with a fascinating guided tour of the vineyard, where we learned about the intricacies of their wine-making process. This was followed by an enlightening wine tasting session that truly educated our palates. The highlight of our visit was an exquisite gourmet meal, where each dish was personally introduced by the chef. He explained the ingredients, cooking techniques, and the inspiration behind each creation. To complement the culinary experience, we were served a glass of wine with each course, and our attentive waitress provided tasting notes, explaining why each wine was paired with its respective dish. It was an unforgettable day filled with great company, beautiful scenery, and exceptional food and wine!

The Vuelta a Andalucía passed through Canillas today, 100 metres from El Cine’s front door. The race, also known as the Ruta del Sol (Route of the Sun), is a regional Spanish road cycling race that has been held annually since 1925. It is typically scheduled in February and is part of the UCI ProSeries, making it one of the most important early-season races. The race spans five stages and covers various routes through Andalusia, offering a mix of challenging terrain and scenic landscapes.

The event attracts professional cyclists from around the world and is known for its competitive nature and the opportunity to see top riders up close. The 2025 edition is set to take place from February 19 to February 23, featuring stages such as Torrox to Cueva de Nerja and Alcaudete to Torredelcampo.

The Vuelta a Andalucía is not only a significant event in the cycling calendar but also a celebration of Andalusian culture and landscapes, drawing both local and international attention.
