Repainted, revarnished, repolished, cleaned and sanitised, hedges trimmed, trees pruned and cut. All ship shape and Bristol fashion. Yesterday replacement of a partial door frame to an outside store room, sawn to size, hinges recessed and replaced. And then relax, enjoy the sun and swimming pool, savour the garden - the smells, the plants, the beauty. Look out over the wooded hills, the mountains of Monserrat.

Friends for cards and lunch, a few glasses of chilled white wine and cava, pleasant company, enervating conversation, thought provoking.

A realisation of how wonderful life is and how lucky we are. Appreciation of friends and family and those that work hard alongside us.

Fresh bread just about to go in the oven. Supper tonight Cumberland sausage with onion and garlic gravy, minted peas and baby roast potatoes. Tomorrow coq-au-vin with creamed potatoes and bread and butter pudding, rich and delicious.
Finally completed varnishing the window frames. Lawns mown with new mower, like a kid with a new toy. Wonderful.
Lovely and warm, but a cooling breeze through the house.

Thank goodness. Wonderful weather. We have just been sat outside playing cards (and this time I managed to win! Which really makes a change!!) and sunbathing at the same time. Keeping ourselves busy with some mosaic tiling of side tables, gardening, maintenance work on the pool cover, a new boiler system and keeping in touch with friends via email and Facebook. Especially enjoying the shared humour. Feel ourselves very fortunate with all that the house and gardens offer.

Thank goodness for gardens, terraces and space and, in fact, maintenance and gardening jobs to do. Much to do and time to do them.
Terraces scrubbed down and clean of lichen, casita roof painted and made good after the January storms and winds.
Plants and seeds brought back from Mexico planted out and herbs sown along with tomatoes and chillies. Grass mown several times but still grows lushly and healthily.
Boiler repaired after water pe*******on during the storm and working well. Lots of wood for the stove to keep us warm, although hoping soon to be able to manage without.
trying out lots of new recipes and some old favourites.

And thank goodness wine is still plentiful and well priced, so cozy evenings in. Very quiet at night, with little to no traffic noise from the road and even neighbouring peacocks at slumber along with dogs. Have seen a few wild boar, mothers and piglets mainly. Handsome creatures but keep at a distance.
Painting and varnishing and still a stock of varnish.
Wish the government would open garden centres and DIY stores!

Storms, torments, winds and yellow pollen from the pine trees. Now calm, sunny and warm. Lots of gardening.

New Year on the way, all looking good and great weather.

The house is looking good for Christmas and the garden too. The pool after re-tiling and grouting looks like new.

Winter makeover complete with new plants, orchids setting new flowers and Christmas cacti coming in to bloom. Even the freesias are putting in a strong showing.

Orchard trees pruned and compost heap replenished and turned over.

A roaring log fire, chestnuts roasting on the wood burner. All looking great.

Mincemeat made (a sweet mixed fruit delight) and the first mince pies made and consumed, along with Christmas pudding.

Settling down for the winter months.

retiling and grouting of the pool completed and pool refilled. A big job.
garden trees and bushes trimmed and turned into either logs for seasoning and the fire or chipped and on the compost heap.
However, still harvesting lovely tasty sweet red peppers.
The orchard has had most of its annual pruning and trim.
the garden is looking very good and well looked after.

Just hosted a 70th birthday party for 50 people which was a very enjoyable day.

Lovely evenings now around the fire and catching up with TV programmes.

What a night! Rain, hail and wind. Much needed and appreciated rain which will be good for the garden.

Guests report all sunshade umbrellas blown over but otherwise no damage.

Quite a few leaves in the pool!

Already a lot greener and less humid.
