Ouff almost there! This was such a huge pain, not because it was complicated but because places like and hire the most uninterested and ignorant people you can imagine. I went in for basic information, purchase advice and every time they got it wrong. If it weren’t for AI and in particular, this would never have been done.

I made a slight miscalculation on the roof so I have to get an extension piece but then it’s just plaster and screwing in the roof left.

probably has the single worst basement door on the market. I had to maneuver and backtrack for probably eight hours or so to figure out a way to install it because whoever designed this door thought it would be a good idea to build in the trim into the door frame. So you have the door frame that goes around the entire leaf and normally you would push it inside a wall cavity, anchor it to the sides and be done but no, why make it easy when you can make it more difficult? So I had made my door opening 2 cm larger than the advertised width of the door, meaning 91 cm.

The trim however measures 92 cm in width so not only did I need to cut my wall opening to make it wider, now I had to backfill behind this stupid ass trim with concrete to make it fit in a solid way. Again, dumbest design possibly. 😅

Oh my gosh I can’t believe I finished laying the blocks! The first five courses took the longest, after that I kind of got the speed up but because I’m doing this for the first time I also made quite a few mistakes that required redoing over and over again. At the end it is completely level and plum and next step now is to fill the corners with concrete and then lay the roof and finally, Inshallah, installing the door. This project has a lot of first time that I’m doing a lot of things and it’s exquisitely painful and fun at the same time.

This is when it starts to get really difficult. Laying blocks at eye level, both difficult and heavy. But hey, three more courses of blocks left and then… well, and then figuring out how to install a door. 😅
