Twenty years later

This September marks twenty years since we began this life at Villa Florencia.

There have been busy summers, quieter winters, unexpected repairs, improvements, changes and more washing than we would ever care to calculate. We have welcomed guests from many different places, watched families return and seen children come back several years older.

The villa has changed during that time, and so have we.

What has remained constant is the desire to give people a place where they can relax and enjoy their holiday without thinking about everything happening behind the scenes.

Perhaps that is why the business now sometimes appears to run on autopilot. The routines are established. The systems work. We know the property, the seasons and the small warning signs that something needs attention.

But autopilot is not the absence of effort.

It is the result of twenty years spent learning how to make that effort less visible.

Guests see the gardens, the clear pool, the clean rooms and the fluffy towels.

We see the early mornings, the tools, the laundry, the repairs, the weather forecasts and the careful planning that allows the work to happen without disturbing anyone.

They see a holiday.

We smile and call it magic.

Somewhere between the first bookings, the endless improvements, the changing seasons, the arrivals and departures, a business gradually became a way of life. What once required constant thought and attention now often seems to move in a familiar rhythm of its own....
