The garden is a mixture of mature palms amongst rocks and shrubs as well as wild olives and carobs filled with song birds on a hillside at the very edge of the pretty 'white village' of Gaucin. It is maintained and equipped to a high standard. The double-height open-plan living room with minstrels' gallery leads to a large covered veranda. There is an archway through to the large dining room which leads to its own covered dining terrace.

4 of the bedrooms and the main living rooms have French windows onto their own terrace or balcony. The 4th and 5th bedrooms are set up as a studio apartment that can be let separately outside the summer season. There are other terraces around the garden. Many visitors to Villa Djebel Musa will have seen the huge Griffon Vultures flying over which nest nearby. This year, a different species has been spending time at the colony - and it has become rare in Spain so this is very nice to have in Gaucin. It is the Egyptian Vulture with its white and black wings and distinctive yellow face. They are half the size of the Griffons but still a large bird.

Visitors in April to June sitting on the 'inner terrace' may notice some friendly and helpful visitors - Swallows. Sometimes they even fly into the terrace to catch 'Stable Flies' that may gather there out of the sun (stable flies are harmless...).
I stood in the sitting room doorway watching the swallows as they danced in and out for about half an hour before they moved on and could see that they would glance at me but never seemed frightened.
This species is the Red Rumped Swallow - it is a breeding visitor to southern Spain. The Barn Swallow that spends the summer in North Europe nests in Gaucin too but I've never seen them come close to the house.
