💚 In the heart of Haría stands a statue dedicated not to a king, a politician, or celebrity, but to a man whose quiet presence has become part of the soul of Haria village.
Ladislao Rodríguez Bonilla, known affectionately as “El Mudo de Haría”, was born deaf in Haría in 1942. As a young man, he learned the trade of barbering in Gran Canaria before returning home to open his own barbershop. Over the decades, that small shop became much more than a place for a haircut, it was a meeting point, a place of conversation, friendship, and community.
Generations of residents have passed through his doors, and through dedication, kindness, and hard work, Ladislao became one of Haría’s most beloved figures. In recognition of a lifetime spent serving his community, the village honoured him with a statue in the centre of Haría last year, featuring the barber’s chair that was so much a part of his life and work.
It is a beautiful reminder that the people who leave the deepest mark on a community are often those who live quietly among us, enriching everyday life through their presence, commitment, and humanity.
