Tonight decides the summer...

"Noche de San Juan" — the eve of the solstice, when Spain lights fires on every beach and asks the wind for a favour. Wishes go up in flames. At midnight, waves get jumped for luck. And whichever way the wind blows tonight, they say, is the way it'll blow all summer long.

We're watching it from here. Moon will be up, over a sea that will decide for all of us.✨

Yeah, that's the actual walk from the apartment to the beach.

No bus. No car. No "it's just a 10-minute drive" (we all know what that means).
50 metres. A few steps. Like the beach is just another room.

Some apartments have just a sea view.
This one has a sea commute.

We came for the view and...

There's a specific feeling that only happens in June by the Mediterranean.

Something shifts. The light changes. The evenings stretch in a way that makes you wonder why you ever let yourself get so busy in the first place.

The sea is warm enough now. The beach has that perfect energy — full of life but not yet overwhelming. The harbour glows in the late afternoon like it knows exactly what it's doing.

The best parts of Puerto de la Duquesa don't make it onto the travel blogs.

They're the corners. The ones you find when you're not looking for anything in particular.

A splash of colour on a white wall. A narrow passage that opens up into something unexpected. The sound of water somewhere nearby. Flowers that have no reason to be that vivid other than the fact that this is the south of Spain and colour here is just how things are.

This place has a way of surprising you quietly.

And then you turn a corner and you're back at the apartment. Yellow cushions catching the afternoon light. The views waiting. The harbour just outside the door.
You didn't plan to fall for this place. You just did.

That's Puerto de la Duquesa. Colourful, warm, quietly happy. The kind of place that gets under your skin without making a fuss about it.

In Málaga, this is not just a dish.
It's an identity.

Fresh anchovies, lightly battered, fried in olive oil until golden. Simple. Honest. Perfect. The kind of food that doesn't try to be anything other than what it is.

The people of Málaga are so proud of this little fish that they named themselves after it. Ask anyone from the capital — they'll tell you with a smile: "Somos los Boquerones." We are the anchovies.

That pride made sense to us too. Something honest, something local, something that felt like this coast — Boquerón Suite❤️

And just like the dish itself, we don't try to be anything other than what we are 😊 A lovely spot by the sea, fifty metres from the beach, the harbour at your door and a chiringuito nearby where the boquerones are exactly as good as they should be.
