🦈 Surprise Shark Sighting Off Málaga Coast Stuns Beachgoers

Residents and visitors along the Costa del Sol were left amazed this week after a rare thresher shark was reportedly spotted just metres from the shoreline near Rincón de la Victoria.

The shark, known in Spanish as a “tiburón zorro”, was filmed close to a sport fishing boat after approaching bait in the water. Videos and images of the sighting quickly spread across social media, sparking curiosity and concern among locals.

Thresher sharks are instantly recognisable thanks to their unusually long tail, which they use to hunt fish. Despite their intimidating appearance, marine experts say they are generally shy animals and are not considered dangerous to humans.

Sightings like this are uncommon along the Málaga coastline, especially so close to busy beach areas, although sharks do occasionally enter warmer Mediterranean waters following schools of fish or fishing activity.

Many social media users reacted with shock at seeing such a large sea creature near the coast, while others described the moment as an incredible reminder of the marine life living beneath the waters of the Costa del Sol.

Authorities have not issued any warnings following the sighting, and there have been no reports of injuries or incidents linked to the shark.
