The Escultura Corazón de Jesús in Artenara looks like a mini version of the famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. It sits at the Mirador del Corazón de Jesús (📌Artenara, Gran Canaria), welcoming people to the highest mountain village on the island
🙌Jesus stands with open arms on top of a globe🌐 which is held up by two kneeling angels👼 overlooking deep ravines and mountain views toward the Caldera de Tejeda⛰️
🗺Engraved with a map of the world on the globe in a deliberate stylistic choice, the Canary Islands are cartographically exaggerated in size to visually highlight the local region hosting the monument.
📜The text etched onto the globe reads:
"Reinaré en España más que en todo el resto del mundo"
("I will reign in Spain more than in all the rest of the world").
This is a line pulled from the historic Catholic hymn dedicated to the Sacred Heart, inspired by the prophetic visions of the 18th-century Spanish Jesuit mystic, Blessed Bernardo de Hoyos.
