Feeling overwhelmed isn’t a personal failure. It’s often your nervous system signalling that too much is happening at once.
When stress builds up, the brain shifts into survival mode. This can leave us feeling anxious, mentally foggy, emotionally reactive, exhausted, or completely shut down. Modern life asks us to process more information, pressure, and stimulation than ever before, so it’s no surprise many people feel overwhelmed.
The important thing to understand is that overwhelm isn’t just happening in the mind, it’s happening in the body too. That’s why physical regulation techniques can be so effective at helping us reset.
Simple practices like cold water on the face, intense movement, slow breathing, muscle relaxation, journalling, and setting boundaries can help calm the nervous system and bring the body back into balance.
Sometimes the answer isn’t to push harder. Sometimes the body is asking us to slow down, recover, and find space to release the tension. 🌿
