It was on the 14th of May 1989 that Miquel Espada Cañet signed the deeds that made him the new owner of Mas Torroella. A day that marked a turning point in the life of Miquel and changed the destiny of what had once been a thriving Catalan “Masia” dating back to the early 15th century but, over the years, had sadly been reduced to little more than an abandoned ruin. Little by little, Miquel starte
d the rebuilding of the whole property, especially after 1991 (only two years after having bought the property) , when the main roof collapsed together with all three floors, turning the masia into little more than four outside walls. As Mas Torroella grew in structure & beauty so did Miquel’s love and passion for this historic “Masia”…
… A passion shared by his daughter Sílvia who, with the same determination & vision, together with her husband Joseph, have now fulfilled her father’s dream by completing the restoration of this splendid emblematic property:
“When my father bought it in 1989 it was an abandoned stone ruin crying to be loved and cared for by somebody... And he spent most of his life rebuilding it, investing all his love and passion to create his dream. Slowly but surely, my father embarked on the rebuilding of the main building and ramshackle outhouses creating, what was initially used as a lodge, a place where he could indulge his passion for hunting. Over the years, we, as a family, spent more and more time there, birthdays & Christmases were celebrated, gatherings of friends held around the log fire during winter, family summer holidays enjoyed amidst the idyllic peace & tranquillity of the surrounding forests. When my father passed away, my husband Joseph and I decided to fulfill his dream and complete the restoration... now our historic masia has been turned into a charming luxury villa & spa. You can feel peace, tranquility and love inside and outside our house. We are proud of it and must admit that, after a long and hard period of restoration, it has been worthwhile. We have really put lots of effort and lots of love in restoring it... and we hope this can be seen in the result...”
