Gran Hotel Son Net is an exquisite luxury boutique hotel located atop a gently sloping tree-clad hill overlooking the ancient village of Puigpunyent. Set at the foot of the beautiful Galatzó Mountain amid the Tramuntana mountain range, Hotel Son Net enjoys a unique position in the southwest corner of Mallorca and is conveniently located approximately 20 minutes from the Palma de Mallorca Airport.

The village of Puigpunyent is a mere five minute walk from the hotel. The small town is one of the few Mallorcan villages that has remained untouched by commercial tourism as its authenticity has been carefully maintained. Guests at this boutique hotel can also enjoy the island’s large number of small coves and beaches, championship golf courses, and architectural and historical sites, many found within a 30 minute drive of the hotel. Palma de Mallorca, the island’s capital, is only a 15 minute drive. Two main monuments dominate the city: The Bellver Castle on the west side and La Seu Cathedral on the east side. Some of the most popular places to visit in Palma include Almudaina Palace, the fish market, and Cort Square. “The old city” refers to the area located behind the cathedral and attracts many tourists due to the number of historic palaces and manors that are reminiscent of the Golden Age. Many of the buildings found on the island are made from a local stone called Santanyí, which gives the city a beautiful golden tone. DESIGN

Natural stone flagged floors and ancient beams are elegantly combined to give the hotel a truly rustic feeling. The handcrafted stucco walls of the hotel and use of Tela de Lenguas fabrics retain the feel of an authentic Mallorcan villa. Art also forms a focal point of this luxury boutique hotel, as it houses a remarkable collection of original works by Christo Javacheff, Richard Serra, Marc Chagall, Frank Stella, David Hockney, and Andy Warhol, among others. HISTORY

Gran Hotel Son Net is one of the oldest properties in Mallorca, with its history dating back to the Bronze Age. Although the present building primarily dates back to 1672, history proves that there has been a house on the site for over 1,000 years. After the Roman, Vandal, and Byzantine occupations of the island, the Moors conquered Mallorca in 902. The Moors built irrigation systems and made the island an agricultural paradise. The stone terraces seen all over the island are the best testimony of their work. In 1229, the Christians reclaimed Mallorca and the land where Son Net stands today. The property, as well as others on the island, were given to the Bishop of Barcelona, one of the most influential people during that period. The property of Son Net was the largest in Mallorca and was called “Pariatge”. After dividing the land of Son Net into four parts, the sections were awarded to a select number of knights who fought valiantly in the Christian conquest of the island. One of these knights came from the Net family and in the year 1453 the finca was given the name of Son Net. During this period, Son Net was the heart of Puigpunyent. At some point during the 17th century, a vast olive oil press was added to the property, greatly aiding the family in the development of the land. In 1863, when the last known member of the Net family passed away, the finca was divided into 27 smaller properties. Of these, Son Net remains one of the largest. After undergoing a series of renovations, Gran Hotel Son Net opened in June 1998, keeping the original well, patio and olive oil press intact.

A night written in the sky 🌘

Last night, in Mallorca, we gathered to witness a unique phenomenon: the total eclipse that bathed the sky in shades of gold, amber, and deep blue.

And this is not goodbye to the eclipses…

On August 2, 2027, another total solar eclipse will cross the south of Spain, with the path of totality passing through the province of Málaga — home to our sister property, Finca Cortesin.

Until then, we’ll keep looking to the skies 🌙
