Dear owner,
We are writing to you regarding the campaign launched by the Torre Pacheco Town Council under the slogan “Don’t Be a Pest” (“No seas plasta”), aimed at improving hygiene and cleanliness in public areas and spaces frequented by pets.
This campaign serves as a reminder to all pet owners that keeping our environment clean is a shared responsibility. It also highlights that certain anti-social behaviours may be subject to penalties under the Municipal Ordinance on Companion Animals and the Municipal Cleaning Regulations, with fines of up to 2,000€.
More specifically, the municipal regulations penalise behaviours such as allowing pets to foul pavements, roads, walkways, street furniture or public spaces without immediately removing and properly disposing of the waste. Owners are also reminded of the obligation to dilute urine with a solution of water and vinegar in order to prevent unpleasant odours, staining, damage to surfaces and hygiene-related issues.
From the resort administration, we would like to place special emphasis on the fact that, in recent weeks, complaints have been received regarding dogs fouling and urinating in landscaped areas, access routes, communal spaces and areas surrounding the swimming pools. This situation is completely unacceptable.
The resort’s communal areas are spaces intended for shared enjoyment, relaxation and family use. Residents sit in these areas, children play there, elderly people walk through them, and community activities take place within them. For this reason, it isn’t acceptable for dogs to relieve themselves in landscaped areas, pool areas, pedestrian access routes or any spaces where other residents may subsequently sit, walk barefoot or allow children to play.
Even where waste is picked up afterwards, allowing an animal to foul in communal areas still creates a hygiene, health and respect issue for other residents. The same applies to urine, which may cause unpleasant odours, staining, deterioration of surfaces and an obvious perception of poor cleanliness in spaces that should be maintained in suitable condition for everyone.
We would therefore like to remind all residents that pet ownership within the resort must always be exercised responsibly. This includes:
Preventing dogs from entering or walking through landscaped areas, pool areas, communal access routes or other communal spaces not intended for such use.
Ensuring that animals do not relieve themselves in these areas.
Immediately removing any faeces, without exception.
Diluting urine with water and vinegar when it occurs on paved or pedestrian areas.
Using external areas or other suitable spaces for walking pets whenever possible.
Respecting at all times community living, hygiene, and the right of all residents to enjoy clean and healthy communal areas.
We therefore request the full cooperation of all property owners and residents. The presence of pets within the resort must remain compatible with respect for the environment, the communal facilities and fellow residents.
We thank everyone in advance for their cooperation in helping to keep the resort clean, safe and pleasant for all.
