La Orotava is getting ready for one of Tenerife’s most traditional and colourful celebrations, with more than 100 events planned around its Patron Saint Festivities.

The programme brings together cultural, religious, sporting and social events for all ages, with the celebrations running until 15 June in honour of Corpus Christi, San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza.

One of the biggest highlights this year is the romería, which marks 90 years since the celebration took the shape by which it is known today. Although this will be its 89th edition due to the pandemic suspension, the event remains one of the great festive references in the Canary Islands.

The famous Baile de Magos will also see a change this year. Instead of taking place on 12 June, it has been brought forward to 5 June because of the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Tenerife.

Local authorities also highlighted the economic impact of the festivities, which are expected to bring between €6 million and €8 million into the town.

With traditional costumes, music, food, religious events and thousands of people filling the historic streets, La Orotava is about to become one of the most important places to visit in Tenerife this festival season.

Did you know about these 5 facts about Tenerife’s climate?

🏝️Mild and Subtropical Climate: Tenerife enjoys a mild and subtropical climate due to its location close to the northwest coast of Africa.

🌡️Limited Temperature Variation: Tenerife has relatively limited temperature variations between seasons. The average temperature in coastal areas typically ranges from around 20 to 28 degrees Celsius in the winter and 24 to 32 degrees Celsius in the summer.

💨Trade Winds Influence: The trade winds play a significant role in Tenerife's climate. These winds help regulate temperatures, bringing cool breezes to the coastal areas. The northeastern parts of the island are generally cooler and more humid due to the influence of these trade winds.

🌋Diverse Microclimates: Tenerife is characterized by diverse microclimates, primarily influenced by the varying altitudes and the presence of the Teide volcano, which is the highest peak in Spain. As you move from the coastal areas to the mountainous regions, you'll encounter changes in temperature, humidity, and precipitation.

🌤️Dry Summers and Mild Winters: Tenerife experiences a dry season during the summer months, with minimal rainfall. Winters are mild and may bring slightly more precipitation, especially in the northern regions. However, compared to many other destinations, Tenerife generally enjoys a relatively dry climate.
