A Beautiful Invitation for Women Writers on the Camino

A few places remain for what sounds like a beautiful and deeply nourishing writing retreat on the Camino.

My friends Shoshana Kerewsky and Alder Allensworth are leading A Women’s Intensive Writing Retreat on the Camino this September at Keltiga, a charming albergue style retreat center near Lourenzá on the Camino del Norte.

I know both of these women through the wider Camino community, and I am so happy to see this retreat coming into being. Shoshana and Alder are both published authors, active members of American Pilgrims on the Camino, devoted pilgrims, generous teachers, and deeply encouraging writing guides. They bring a beautiful combination of literary skill, Camino heart, lived experience, and warm attention.

A few years ago, I had the gift of participating in a writing workshop here on the Camino Francés guided by Beebe Bahrami, with Alder and Shoshana both in the circle. I know firsthand how powerful it can be to gather writers in a pilgrim landscape.

Something happens when walking, listening, silence, landscape, memory, and words are allowed to meet. The Camino has a way of loosening the deeper stories.

This new retreat will take place at Keltiga, near Lourenzá on the Camino del Norte, and would be a beautiful way to incorporate a Camino and writing experience into your journey, whether you are already walking, returning to the path, or feeling called to deepen your relationship with the Camino through words, memory, reflection, and story.

I have also had the joy of helping design Alder’s Camigas Scarf books, so I know the care, imagination, humor, and tenderness she brings to her work. And Shoshana brings her own rich gifts as a writer, teacher, and longtime Camino voice.

The retreat is open to self identified women age 18 and older, including bio women, transwomen, and genderqueer women. Writers of all experience levels are welcome. You do not have to be a “real writer” to come. If you are longing for time, space, encouragement, and a circle of women writing together on the Camino, that is more than enough.

The week will include writing instruction, prompts, feedback if desired, individual and group activities, sharing, optional walking and field trips, plant forward meals, and spacious time to write, reflect, wander, and listen.

Dates: September 22 to 28, 2026
Location: Keltiga, near Lourenzá, Camino del Norte
Cost: €1150 per person
Group size: 8 to 12 women

For more information on the retreat, you can find Shoshana’s contact information through her blog:

I love seeing offerings like this emerge on the Camino. A week of women, words, walking, courage, and story feels like exactly the kind of medicine the world needs.

Dear friends,

As spring begins to stir here on the Camino, I wanted to share a small note from the Stone Boat.

A new seasonal newsletter is taking shape, and if you would like to receive it, you are warmly welcome to join at
www.thestoneboat.com

After a long old winter, there are beautiful things beginning to emerge. The Stone Boat has come off its mooring and is slowly becoming a vessel for stories once again.

At the same time, a dear friend and long-time hospitalero of the Camino is preparing to return home after many years on the road. It has been deeply moving to witness the kindness and generosity gathering around him as he takes these next steps. If you would like to read more about his story, you will find the link in the first comment below.

More to come as I find my way out of a hermit winter and into this new season.

If you feel called, I would be glad to have you along for the journey.

Kim

Hi friends,

The weather is turning here in Rabanal and before I finish that newsletter I promised, I wanted to share this small winter project. I hope you are all keeping warm and well wherever this message finds you.

Some of you already know that I have made the great transition from innkeeper to full-time village cat wrangler. With the cold settling in and the first sprinkling of snow already behind us, I have started a little fundraiser to help keep the cats warm and fed through the winter. Gracie may be the face of it, but it supports the whole gang, and anyone who has been to Rabanal has probably met at least one of them.

If you would like to read the story or take part, the link is below.
If you are not on my newsletter list and would like to receive updates from the village, you can sign up on The Stone Boat website. The field notes come out only from time to time, just small glimpses of life here.

Happy holidays from the old holy road.
Kim

evening light |

Bring what you have.

You were always going
that way anyway,
you were always
going there all along.

FOR THE ROAD TO SANTIAGO

For the road to Santiago,
don’t make new declarations
about what to bring
and what to leave behind.

Bring what you have.

You were always going
that way anyway,
you were always
going there all along.

The sense of having something deep inside us that we might have carried with us all along, that can emerge on its own as we go, if we go with sincerity, if we go in the right way, with the right people to the right place; the understanding that what calls from the outside horizon has a correspondence far beneath the horizon of understanding we have established within us.
