About the Lodge: Bale Mountain Lodge is an 11 bedroomed eco, wilderness lodge in the Bale Mountains National Park (BMNP) of south central Ethiopia. More than a Lodge, we sponsor research, and link with conservation bodies to enhance knowledge of the Park and its precious endemics. The owners, Yvonne and Guy are honoured and thrilled to have had two species of endemics 'discovered' in the last cou
ple of years, named after them, for their help with research projects and dedication to conservation. We produce our own 'green' energy by means of our hydro system, and manage all systems with a view to preserving the pristine nature of the environment. About the Park: named, 'One Park- Many Worlds, habitats change as the Park stretches from north to south. From the Gaysay Grasslands in the north, climb to the Sanetti Plateau (4377m at its highest point, Tulu Dimtu) and descend into the ancient cloud forest of Harenna. The Lodge nestles in the natural Katcha clearing and views extend to the plateau beyond. The Sanetti Plateau is the largest tract of Afro-alpine moorland remaining on the continent. About the Wildlife: most of the remaining Ethiopian Wolves, the world’s rarest canid, are found on the Plateau, and they survive on other endemic rodents, which also feed the abudant birdlife of the Plateau. The amazing mix of habitats within the Park supports myriad rare species, many endemic to Ethiopia and some found only within the park: species include the endemic Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck Harenna and Bale Chameleons, Bale Monley and various rodent species, plus Abysinnian lions, rare Giant Forest Hogs and significant numbers of endemic or rare bird species.
