The landmark event took place at the Zera Yacob Hall, Tower-59, on the university’s Maraki Campus.

The conference brought together a diverse and influential assembly of participants. The gathering was honored by the presence of distinguished guests including State Minister of Tourism, Mr. Seleshi Girma; UNESCO Cultural Program Specialist, Mr. Getu Assefa; and the Ministry of Tourism Special Advisor, Dr. Yezihalem Sissay. They were joined by researchers, academicians, policy analysts, think tank representatives, religious institutions, students, and a wide array of key stakeholders, including officials and partners from regional, zonal, and city administrations across the nation. Under the theme “Preserving Heritage, Promoting Identity: Leveraging ‘Timkat’ for Uniting Culture, Faith, and Tourism,” the conference facilitated robust, high-level discussions and knowledge exchange. Participants explored strategic frameworks for harnessing Ethiopia’s rich intangible cultural heritage, with a focused lens on the globally significant Timkat (Epiphany) festival. The dialogue, enriched by the insights of national and international experts, centered on creating sustainable tourism models that celebrate faith, protect authentic cultural expressions, and foster national unity.

The deliberations have charted a collaborative path forward, positioning Ethiopia’s unique heritage as a cornerstone for community-based tourism, enhanced visitor experiences, and inclusive economic growth.

Our sincere gratitude goes to our distinguished guests—State Minister Mr. Seleshi Girma, UNESCO’s Mr. Getu Assefa, and Dr. Yezihalem Sissay—for their invaluable insights and leadership.
