Markkina has a rich history. Next to my grandmother’s cabin complex lies the old site used for markets, sacrificial rituals, and church gatherings.
It was there that Finnish soldiers dug their trenches, keeping watch toward Norway during the winter of 1944–1945.
A few kilometers away, German soldiers had their fortifications.
