Cleaning and Maintenance

The apartment is tidied up for your arrival. Please, keep it that way during your stay so it is much more comfortable.

There is a vacuum cleaner, a brush and dustpan, a mop and necessary cleaning detergents for you to use while staying in the apartment. Especially, if you stay a longer time, you should clean the house just like you do at home (or at your mother’s home).

In the hallway cupboard by the front door, there are two paper bags, one for newspapers, adverts etc. papers, and the other one for cardboard, such as empty milk cartons, and alike. There is also a plastic bag for recyclable bottles in the corridor cabinet. Leave the recyclable glass stuff there, please.

Plastic waste, non-refundable glass jars and metal waste are gathered in the two bins, in lower drawer below the sink, in the kitchen. Upper drawer contains organic waste bucket and “general” waste bucket.

For recycling, please organise all waste in respective containers and take them out to the garbage shed, located between the building and the street. Especially, organic waste might be smelly, so take it out frequently.

Caring for the property!

Please, take care and manage all property with caution and prudence, while your stay. Make sure your shoes or suitcases do not scratch the floors and that food or any other items is not spilled on the furniture.

When cooking, avoid scratching the Teflon coating of the kettles and frying pans with metal objects. Use the wooden items from the bottom drawer, just right to the stove.

If you brake or damage something, just let me know so that I can repair or replace the item. It is most frustrating for me and the next guest to find some unreported, broken dishes or damaged items. Only the cost of the damage will be charged, as long as there is no excessive work doing so.

Smoking - not allowed inside!

Smoking in the apartment, and on the balcony is strictly prohibited. The smell will stick to the furniture and textiles and remain in the apartment, a long time after. It will also spread easily in the house and cause unpleasant friction among neighbors. There is clearly marked smoking spot outside the house, at the end of the car park shelter. Please, make sure to always go there when you crave a cigarette!

The Apartment

The house is a 1984 built four level condo, and the apartment is located on the upper middle floor. There is a bedroom (with a door that can be closed), a living room, a kitchen, a wc/shower, a sauna, and a balcony.

There are hangers in the hallway cabinet with sliding mirror doors, where you may hang your clothing, during your stay. Also, in the bedroom there is a cabinet for storing your items on the shelves.

The balcony has glass windows that may be opened. To open the rightmost window, turn the k**b (requires a bit more turning than you would expect) and pull gently. To open more windows, slide them to the right. Balcony curtains may be pulled down by hand, or by making use of the rod, hanging in the balcony corner. Please, be careful to use the rod to only pull down (or push up) from the attachment bar, and not from the curtain material.

The bathroom floor misses sufficient tilt for the water will to run seamlessly to the drain, which is located under the shower cabin. So, if the floor gets wet, please use the squeegee to dry up the floor.

The floors in the hallway and living room are parquet, which should be kept dry, at all times. Please, make sure there is no water or moisture on the floors and in case they get wet, please wipe them dry, immediately, to avoid costly reparations. If you walk from the Sauna to the balcony, make sure you don’t drip water on the floors.

Furniture textiles are always sensitive for dirt. Please make sure that nothing spills on the beds, sofas or other furniture. Especially wine, tee, coffee are really impossible to wash away, and such spills will always bring along extra costs.

In the apartment you will find all typical necessities, to make your stay enjoyable:
- Bed linen, bath towel and face towel for each occupant.
- Toilet paper, tissues, hand towel, kitchen towel
- Soap, shampoo
- Tableware and cutlery
- Dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, other detergents and means for cleaning
- Cooking supplies, two kettles, frying pan, casseroles, salad sling
- Blender, toaster, water boiler, coffee machine, etc.
- Espresso kettle (please note that there is a design fault in the Bialetti kettle, as it will drip coffee along its handle. Place a cup underneath the handle when cooking espresso)
- Coffee, tea, sugar, salt
I might leave some other ingredients for you disposal, too. I have some of my own food stuff in the drawer boxes in the fridge and the freezer. I appreciate if you sustain from making use of them.

Washing Machines

DISHWASHER
When using the dishwasher in the kitchen, please pay attention:
- The water is OFF when the faucet is pointing straight UP
- The water is ON when the faucet points to the low left
- Keep the water in OFF position always, when not using the dishwasher, to avoid leaks
- Flush the dishes before putting them into the washer, plates and kettles down, glasses up
- Do not run the dishwasher almost empty. Only start it when sufficiently full
- Teflon coated frying pans, as well as wooden cutlery items and ceramic knifes must be washed by hand, and not put into the dishwasher

To start the dishwasher:
!!! Make sure that you don't need to go out, while the program is running. You should ALWAYS BE IN THE APARTMENT during the program to react quickly, if there is a water leak or other problem!!!

a) When there is sufficiently dishes in the machine, turn the faucet to lower left into ON position
b) Put a small amount of dishwasher detergent into the container and close it
c) Close the lid of the machine and press the power on (left, upper corner)
d) Select a suitable program
a. Päivittäispesu = daily wash, about one hour b. Normaalipesu = normal wash, about 2 hours c. Pikapesu = quick wash, about n. 0,5 hours
d. Ecopesu = ecological wash, about 2,5 hours e. Finally, press the ”Start” button
After the program is finished, the lower red light ”Valmis” will lit. Open the lid and let the dishes cool down before taking them out and putting them in place.

LAUNDRY MACHINE
When staying for a longer time, you might need to use the laundry machine. To do that, plug the electricity to the wall socket, and turn the water ON (“Open, Auki”). Afterwards, remove the plug from the socket and turn the water OFF (“Close, Kiinni”).

Don’t use excessive amounts of detergent, as it only surges and messes up the machine. Usually some 40 ml detergent is enough (see the scale in the plastic ball that comes with the detergent bottle). Place the plastic ball with detergent into the machine, with the laundry.
Close the lid and turn the machine on by pushing the power button on the top right. Select the right program, temperature and centrifuge speed. Then, press the arrow-type button, below the power button.
Once the program starts, the lid is locked and not possible to open. If you need to cancel the program, do so by pushing the power button, and then unplug the machine from the wall. After that you may open the lid. Beware that if the program has been running, there might be a lot of water in the machine. You should always run the water draining program before attempting to open the lid, in such case.
After the program is finished, you may hang your laundry to dry. I recommend using the house drying room, in the first place and especially for larger items that take longer to dry. The drying room is to be found in the basement. Smaller items can be dried on the balcony or in the bathroom. NEVER put anything to dry above the Sauna stove because of a risk of fire.
