🔥 New research from Finland confirms what sauna bathers have known for generations: löyly matters.
A new study from the University of Jyväskylä and KIHU found that humidity has an independent effect on how our bodies respond to sauna—not just temperature.
While hotter saunas increased cardiovascular load, the humidity created by throwing water on the stones also played a significant role in heart rate, body temperature, and the body’s ability to cool itself.
For years, sauna research has focused primarily on temperature. This study suggests we’ve been missing part of the picture.
In other words, a Finnish sauna isn’t just hot air. It’s the dynamic relationship between heat, steam (löyly), and the bather.
It’s another reminder that traditional sauna isn’t defined by a number on the thermometer—it’s an experience shaped by heat, humidity, and listening to your body.
What role does löyly play in your perfect sauna?
