Today is the 80th Anniversary of the "Battle of Ecueille". Not a big one in the history books but very important for its residents, especially those that still remain from that time. And there is at least one in these photos! 25th Aug 1944 saw the Germans retreating and generally causing havoc, destroying anything in their way. They hadn't reckoned on coming across a small detachment of the 8th Cuirassiers (Cavalry although light armoured by this time) and the local farmers and Resistance. A bloody battle ensued and many died and were injured on both sides but the French prevailed at the end. The action saw the commune win a Croix de Guerres for the bravery and courage of its inhabitants at the time. Pictures below are from today's ceremonies.
