Round each bend the vista changes, as the waterway weaves through the heart of Burgundy’s beautiful scenery. We began in 1976 and our experience is evident from the attention to detail. The barge accommodates 12 passengers in 8 en-suite cabins, with an attractive saloon and inviting sundeck. On board, guests will experience the gastronomy of France with fine regional wines and delicious gourmet me

als. The week’s itinerary combines cruising the waterway with daily excursions in the barge’s private bus, to visit famous vineyards for wine tasting, Medieval towns, historic châteaux and colorful markets.

Designated a protected historic district in its entirety—the only town in the Nièvre region with this distinction—Clamecy invites you to stroll its winding cobbled streets, lined with beautifully preserved homes dating from the 13th century.

⛪️ At the heart of Clamecy stands the magnificent Church of Saint-Martin – a Gothic masterpiece. Nearby, the historic Bethlehem quarter preserves the memory of one of Europe's most unusual stories: after the Crusades, the Bishopric of Bethlehem was relocated here, making Clamecy its home for more than 600 years.

🌳 Clamecy also played a vital role in shaping France. For over 400 years, timber from the forests of the Morvan was floated down the Yonne River to build and heat Paris, bringing prosperity to this elegant riverside town.

👑 Even England's royal history has a connection here—through the Counts of Nevers, Clamecy shares an ancestral link with Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of King Henry VIII.

⛪️ The monastery endured repeated attacks during the Hundred Years' War and the religious conflicts of the 16th century.
🔥 After periods of renewal, a devastating fire in 1693 caused significant damage.
🏛️ The French Revolution brought another dramatic chapter when the monks were expelled in 1789 and the property was nationalised and sold.
🌿 Today, this extraordinary site is enjoying a renaissance. Listed as a Historic Monument, the monastery and its gardens are being carefully restored.
