☀️🌙 What a treat it was to witness today's near-total solar eclipse with our guests here at Gîte du Moulin Toucan!
In proper "Blue Peter" style, we created homemade viewers made from recycled kitchen roll tubes, foil, and old X-rays!

Southwest France turned out to be one of the best spots in the country for this rare event with 99% of the sun covered.
Not every day brings a sky show like this. Such a privilege to see.

🇫🇷 Happy Bastille Day – 14 July! 🎆

Today is France's National Day, celebrating the values of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity and marking the beginning of the French Revolution.

If you're staying with us, you may notice a festive atmosphere in the local villages. Many communities celebrate with:
✨ Traditional village fêtes
🎶 Live music and dancing (bal populaire)
🍷 Food and drink stalls
🎇 Spectacular fireworks after dark ( many of these have been cancelled this year due to the current heatwave and risk of fires).

As today is a national holiday, many supermarkets, banks and smaller local shops may be closed or have reduced opening hours, so it's worth planning ahead if you need to stock up.

If you have the chance, we highly recommend visiting a nearby village this evening to experience the celebrations, it’s a wonderful way to enjoy French culture and create some holiday memories.

Local walks around are surrounded by fields and fields of gorgeous sunflowers at the moment. 🌻
If there's one thing enjoying this heatwave, it's definitely the sunflowers! They seem to be thriving in the sunshine and are putting on a spectacular display. 🌻🌼🌻

Woken up by Mother Nature this morning, lots of thunder, lightning and pouring rain! 🌩️🌧️☔️

What a relief after the recent heat, for us, the garden, and especially the fish, who had been confined to a tiny pool of water. Now their area of exploration has trippled and they can finally swim freely.💚💦🌳

Looking for the perfect way to stay cool during this heatwave? One of our favourite local escapes is an early morning swim at Lac de Sagnat, near Bessines-sur-Gartempe. Just a short drive from our gîte, Lac de Sagnat is surrounded by woodland, open countryside, and walking trails, making it ideal for a family day out. Children will love the fully equipped play park, while parents can unwind in the shady picnic areas or relax on the lovely sandy beach.

Whether you're swimming, strolling around the lake, enjoying a picnic, or delicious lunch at , the scenery and views are stunning. It's the perfect place to escape the heat and make happy holiday memories.

It's feeling, Hot! Hot! Hot!

This early summer heatwave has definitely turned the temperatures up.☀️

We are very fortunate have several swimming lakes within a short drive from Gîte du Moulin Toucan. A great day out to keep cool.😎🥵
