Carcassonne, a short drive from the domaine, is well worth exploring. The walls of the city are 3km long, and boast 52 towers and barbicans designed to prevent attack by siege engines. In 1849 the city was nearly demolished because it fell into such disrepair that the government decided it should be demolished, but this caused uproar amongst local citizens and a successful campaign was run to preserve the walled city and bring it back to its former glory, the city we see today. It was added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in 1997.

Mealtimes at La Vène are always a highlight for our guests. As well as meals at the domaine, there is no shortage of food and fantastic cuisine in the Languedoc, this is France after all! From local village bistrots to higher-end restaurants for a finer dining experience, we have a fantastic selection of our favourites, many within a 20 min drive.

Cadaqués is a popular spot to visit from the domaine. Just across the border in Spain, this stunning, whitewashed Mediterranean village on the Costa Brave is known for its artistic history. With narrow cobbled streets and the proximity to the Cap de Creus Natural Park, it offers a serene picturesque retreat for swimming, diving, and art.

Reviews like this are just wonderful -

The villa is utterly spectacular, with views over the valley. Each room is quaint and beautiful. It felt endless with hidden rooms and corridors and even a cinema room.
The pool area was where we spent most of the time and around the outdoor dining table. We were fortunate enough to bring some chalet chefs who made the whole experience just simply delightful and our evenings were spent as a typical Mediterranean dream.
I couldn’t recommend this as a place to stay more. With lots of local places to visit or a relaxing long day by the pool. A holiday destination of perfection.
