This is no joke, due to the amount of rain we've had this winter, vineyards are still waterlogged and this will no doubt have an impact on this year's harvest.

Spring is apparently still springing even if the weather has other ideas! After 4 glorious days a couple of weeks ago we have returned to grey skies and rain, our mini Niagra is once again in full flow 🐳

If you are visiting the area in Spring then there is still lots you can do without the Summer heat and the crowds. There are lots of excellent walking routes both close to the village and further afield and this one can't get much closer! The Route des Mouton ( or Sheep walk) starts right on our doorstep - and half way through you can look down on the house and grounds from up on top of the Devils oven cave - how cool is that?

It's a lovely walk that takes in forest, vineyards and spectacular views and the best bit is if you time it correctly, you can stop off for a well earned lunch and glass of wine in the village on your way back.

This weekend it FINALLY stopped raining!!! After 3 months of near constant rain and 3 named storms it was a pleasure to see the sun again. With average temperatures from Saturday to Tuesday ranging from 16 to 20 degrees, it was a perfect opportunity to catch up on some garden jobs and a little R & R outside with a book!

Being lovers of Spain and it's cuisine we have obviously sampled many of its delights when visiting and holidaying there and given that the borders and territories between France & Spain have been long fought over for centuries you would think that good 'Spanish Tapas' would be easy to come by - WRONG! Don't get me wrong many French restaurants will serve Tapas but it's their take on Tapas and until recently we had not found anything that came close until we visited Floridablanca on the gorgeous Rue Trivalle in Carcassonne at the foot of La Cité. Run by a husband and Wife team, this cute little restaurant really does knock the rest out of the park in terms of what it offers and this is due to the fact that the owner spent time in Spain learning his craft and the results are fabulous. So if you crave something a little more authentic then definitely check this place out.

Spring is Springing!

Today we are having a rare resbite from the awful weather most of northern Europe is experiencing (no we are not immune to it being this far south!). We have just experienced our third major storm in 3 months and to say we are now sick of the rain is an understatement. Don't get me wrong, we need it, but maybe not all at once. During the hot dry summers water restrictions are put in place, you are not to water flowers only vegetables, village and town fountains are switched off and then we get this - what seems like 3 months of solid rain. Although it has been extremely wet, it hasn't however been particularly cold despite it feeling the coldest winter we've had since arriving here. As such the garden and the surrounding countryside seems to think Spring has arrived already and is behaving accordingly - Almond trees are in full blossom, the Ash trees have already sprouted their new fresh green leaves, catkins are abundant, I have spotted flowers attempting to emerge on my Camelia and Japanese quince, Crocuses have already been and gone and the Daffodils are keen to follow as are the tulips which I have no doubt will flower before too long. Spring is my favourite time of year here but it seems to arrive unbidden earlier every year and given what the world climate is doing at the moment this could prove to be the norm rather than the exception.

What's your favourite time of year? What is the first sign for you that warmer lighter days are on the way? Let us know in the comments ⬇

Are you dying to dip your toes in the Med?

Then if so, Gruissan is the place for you especially if you also like a chilled vibe and water sports because this quirky little seaside haunt can offer it all. Take a relaxing stroll around the town, have a spot of lunch, then wander up to Gruissan Plage to watch the kite surfers whilst enjoying a drink at one of the beachside bars. Enjoy watching the myriad of flamingos and other birds on the flats and you can also visit the famous salt flats a mile or so from the village.

After a hiatus of I do not know how long, we were back on the walking trail yesterday with a circular walk around neighbouring Azillanet, it was a glorious day and the sun was shining. What could be better? 😎
