As August nears its end and temperatures remain high, there's lots still to be done in the garden.
However, due to health reasons and various hospitalisations of both of us with still more to come, we have decided to stop the bed and breakfast side and concentrate on ourselves.
We've had 15 years of meeting and greeting lovely people from all over the world but it's time to stop.
Thank you to all of you who have chosen to stay with us, share your hopes and ambitions and have stayed in touch with us over the years and become friends.

Christmas is now a long lost memory, new year 🎉 celebrations are done and we are well into 2019. No doubt some of us are taking stock and making adjustments to our lifestyle after all the treats (not to mention the recent galette de Rois).
So far, Winter has been kind to us but snow 🌨 is forecast for the next few days which means we will have to keep warm and safe indoors.
I never make New Year's resolutions but I know this can be a difficult time of year for remembering loved ones who for whatever reason cannot be with us and for those who are alone.
It costs nothing to give a smile and a kind word to a neighbour but it could mean the world to them, so as I wish you all the best of health, let's spare a thought for others.
Let that be a New year's resolution.

Well most of the swallows have gone and the days are getting shorter. We still have sunny days to enjoy as I start the autumn clear up in the garden. Plenty of apples to pick and bottle. Will the figs ripen in time? We'll have to wait and see. Chuffed to bits with our first pears which are delicious, some are bottled to be enjoyed later. Our winter wood has been delivered which gives us a good workout each day as it gets stacked. It's a great time of year when we take stock of the hard work done throughout the year before winter arrives and we light the fire. There's always plenty to do indoors if the weather is less than inviting outside. The holiday season is over and we've met some lovely people again. All in all, another good year and it's not over yet !

It's been a while since I posted anything due to various life interventions, but I'm back and the sun is shining and it's full steam ahead in the garden. The past two years have been disappointing for fruit but this year looks to be a bumper one. Jam making will be in full flow , the first raspberry jam is done with loads more to come. Redcurrants, blackcurrants to follow.... My lovely OH bought me a mini greenhouse this year so I could be more successful with my seeds - and boy did that make a difference! If all goes well I will be searching for recipes for chillis and red peppers !! More news to follow - for now I must get myself ready for my keep fit class !

It's been a fairly quiet year this year, the Brexit decision certainly meant we didn't see many guests from UK but we did get to meet some lovely French holiday makers. A lot of people chose to spend their holiday self catering. So here we are, a couple of days away from Christmas and then the end of 2017; we would like to thank all of you who chose to stay with us, Joyeux Noel et bon sante.

Some of our guests have four legs, cover photo shows young Sophie having a well deserved rest.

After the dodgy weather recently, it was just too good not to be out in the garden today. Having stripped out the tomato and haricot vert plants, it was great to get stuck in and rough dig over, getting out the weeds (for the chickens to enjoy, of course). I threw a fleece over the butternuts which are still growing in case we get an early frost, so am feeling pretty pleased with myself. Hope this continues for a little while longer and I can clear another patch.

The weather is definitely not very summery here at the moment which makes it challenging for our holiday makers but we have a lovely French family staying who are so positive, they bring a ray of sunshine to the breakfast table. So nice to see young ladies who don't mind getting their hair wet, don't mind where they go as long as they are all together - and love history! A joy to have them here.

It's been a while since I posted anything so today I am taking five minutes to reflect on how our year is going so far. I can't believe we are over half way through the year and the holiday season is in full swing; although, I did notice nights are drawing in already. We've met lots of lovely people this year (as usual), some on holiday, just passing through, some looking to relocate to this beautiful part of France. Tonight, we look forward to meeting another French family who are taking a break on their journey to their holiday destination. We are so lucky to be able to take a peek into the lives of others, share a breakfast together before they move on. Of all the places they could choose to stay, how lucky are we they choose us. 😎
