Aujourd’hui, nous célébrons l’anniversaire de la première ascension du Mont-Blanc ! Le 8 août 1786, Jacques Balmat et Michel Paccard atteignent le toit de l’Europe.
Mais saviez-vous Paccard n’est pas le deuxième homme de la statue de Chamonix ? Aux côtés de Balmat, c’est Horace-Bénédict de Saussure.
Ce scientifique suisse était l’instigateur de cette expédition, rêvant de vaincre ce sommet qu’on appelait “la montagne maudite”.
Chapeau, et merci à eux trois pour cette aventure qui a marqué l’histoire de l’alpinisme !
Si vous voulez mettre vos pas dans ceux de Paccard et Balma, depuis le Big Sky, prenez le bus n°2, montez en télésiège ou à pied jusqu’à la buvette des Bossons ou aux Pyramides, et pour les plus aguerris qui monteront jusqu’à la Jonction, vous passerez sous le fameux “Bivouac à Balmat” !

August 8th, 1986 - August 8th, 2024 Today, we celebrate the anniversary of the first ascent of Mont Blanc! On August 8th, 1786, Jacques Balmat and Michel Paccard reached the roof of Europe.
But did you know that Paccard isn’t the second man in the Chamonix statue? Standing alongside Balmat is Horace-Bénédict de Saussure. This Swiss scientist was the instigator of this expedition, dreaming of conquering this summit that was called « the cursed mountain. » Thank you to all three of them for this adventure that marked the history of mountaineering!
If you want to follow in the footsteps of Paccard and Balma, from Big Sky, take bus number 2, take the chairlift or walk up to the Bossons refreshment bar or the Pyramids, and for the more experienced who will climb up to the Jonction, you will pass under the famous « Bivouac à Balmat »!
