We have a couple of weeks free still at our rambling Mill in South West France. It sleeps 14, with multiple streams winding through woodland gardens, table tennis, tree house, outdoor kitchen, cycle path between villages with good restaurants, markets and shops. Perfect for families and friends to meet.

The good news about all the clumps of brambles springing up in the field is that there are armfuls of delicious blackberries. We now have peaches and mirabelles as well, all being made into delicious jam.

I love the woods above Peument. There are lots of wildflower meadows, alongside the vineyards and this year corn. Indie is recovering from her operation and so we are not going quite so far, but there are lovely and extendable routes.

We've tried to use natural hedging and fencing around the moulin. Around the sawmill is a mix of woven hazel fencing and hedging made up of all the prunings and cuttings that year. The idea is that each year will rot down to be replaced again with whatever is on offer that year.

In the middle of the field is a huge old walnut tree. Serene and wise, watching our mowing, scything, hedge laying and blackberry picking. And every year providing us with a carpet of delicious walnuts.

Rather unwisely, according to most, we've gone for a busted up old sit on lawnmower. The engine is in good nick but almost everything else needs work. This seems to fit our ethos at Le Moulin of recycling and reconditioning. The mower is a Frankenstein affair made up of bits from other mowers which don't quit fit. Perfect!
