Nature is wonderful and cruel at the same time. Of 4 that hatched only this one has survived.
Also this week we lost a hen to a Goshawk.
Most birds of prey leave us alone as we have crows nearby and various other deterants. However, Goshawks hunt in woodland and that's where she got the hen.

Nature never fails to amaze me. The drought and severe heat we have had this year has killed off our grass and only a few green patches from weeds.
However, In the he past 7 days we have had 27mm of rain, 15 of those millimetres were today and that's enough for the first mushrooms to appear tonight!
The beauty of countrysife living here in France is you very much have all 4 seasons and Autumn and early Spring are my favourites.
Watching birds migrate and return, seeing nature put our berries for animals to eat in return for spreading the seeds.
A truly miraculous World we live in

Totally not related to our rental property but I am overflowing with pride for my only Nephew, Cam Miller.
Cam was presented with his wings yesterday and is now off to fly Chinook helicopters for the RAF.
Seems like yesterday he was going to the Air Cadets after school and at weekends.
I am sure you will all join me in congratulating him

One of the loveliest little visitors we get here at Chant D’Oiseau in Chassenon 🐿️🌳

Red squirrels regularly visit our garden and the surrounding woodland, and we never get tired of seeing them darting between the trees or suddenly appearing while we’re sitting outside.

It’s one of those simple pleasures that makes this part of the Charente so special. With woodland, open countryside and plenty of wildlife right on the doorstep, there’s always something to spot — whether it’s squirrels, birds, butterflies or the occasional unexpected visitor.

If you love peaceful mornings, countryside walks and watching nature from the garden, you’ll feel very much at home here. 🌿

The chickens and the deer having a lovely time. Much cooler today but still just over 30 degrees.
I have picked the last of the Mirabelle plums, some pears and some apples.
I have taken the plums to a few different neighbours as well as giving away some eggs and tomatoes.
Tomorrow our guests in the gite leave so I can continue with a petrol chainsaw in the woods removing fallen trees and cutting them into firewood.
Country living at its finest!
We have vacancies now until 20th September and then nothing until January.
