Nothing is more revolutionary than love. Nothing is a greater repudiation of a world behaving more insane every day than to stand on a foundation of love: knowing that love is who we are, love is why we are here, and loving one another is all that ultimately matters.

It sounds so easy but at times it’s so hard. Truth is simple but life is so complex. Love is the shift we are longing to make; it’s the only force powerful enough to override the forces of fear and chaos that are lurking in our midst.

Mother Theresa said there are no great acts of love, only small acts done with great love. I think there are small acts and large acts too; perhaps size and form is not what matters so much as the changes going on in any of us these days when we answer to the call of love.

The revolution isn’t coming; the revolution is already here. It is a revolution of consciousness, a realization that things do not have to be the way they are. It is a revolution of love, in which we recognize that humanitarian rather than economic principles should be the bottom line in how we order our societies.

People will tell you that you’re naïve if you think that, but let me tell you otherwise. What’s naïve is to think humanity will last another hundred years on this planet if we do not at least try. Either love will guide us to greater life, or fear will guide us to our collective death. Whether through war or environmental disaster or any other display of our insanity, fear will destroy us if we allow it to. Only a change within our hearts can send it back to the nothingness from whence it came.

So wake up each day and join the revolution. It’s a revolution that’s already happening, emerging not from any one place or one ethnic group or one religion or one spiritual tradition. It is emerging from the deepest regions of the human heart, in response to the call of the ages as history moves through us. It honors our ancestors and devotes itself to our descendants. Be a .
