If you like good smells, pretty little villages and taking the long way around
Provence is a pretty good place to be. đŸ‡«đŸ‡·

Soap and perfume are a big part of the local tradition, so a while ago we visited the Fragonard parfumerie in Grasse, the famous perfume town on the Cîte d’Azur. A lovely place to visit, with beautiful surroundings and plenty to explore nearby.

And that’s what we love about staying in Cotignac; there are so many wonderful places within easy reach. Markets, vineyards, pottery, food, little villages
you’re never short of somewhere to wander off to. 🌿

What’s so special about Provence? 💜

The markets, the little villages, the food
the amazing landscapes and all those little places you’d never find unless you just got in the car and went exploring.

We could spend months here just driving around, stopping for lunch and seeing where we end up đŸžïž

Did you know Cotignac is built right beneath a huge 400-metre-long cliff? 👀

It’s one of the things that makes this little Provençal village so unique, along with its winding streets, cafĂ©s, markets, vineyards and olive groves.

You can climb up from the village, wander through the old troglodyte dwellings and look back over the rooftops of Cotignac from above.

And then come back down for a long lunch under the plane trees, a glass of rosĂ© and a wander through the little streets 🙌

IMPORTANT MESSAGE from de Mairie de Cotignac

Dear residents,

I would like to inform you about the progress of the fire that is still affecting our neighbors in Montfort-sur-Argens and Correns, as well as to provide an update on our village.

As of today, the fire is perfectly contained in Cotignac. Life is returning to normal: the market on Tuesday, August 3, has regained its appeal, attracting nearly 2,000 people in an atmosphere that has brought us all comfort. Let us not forget our market on Friday morning at Place de la République.

The terraces are once again being used, and our merchants, who have gone through a difficult period, are gradually regaining their dynamism.

For this August, I invite you to participate in the many events planned:
‱ Festival des Toiles du Sud: on August 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, and 28.
‱ Meals and petanque competitions: every Friday evening, organized by the Boule du Rocher, followed by a competition at noon.
‱ August 15: flea market, then pistachio soup proposed by the Association of Young Hunters of Var starting at 7 p.m., Gambetta course, with musical entertainment.
‱ Boulist week: from August 18 to 23,
‱ Local festival: from August 21 to 23.
‱ “Les Pieds TanquĂ©s” show: on August 23 at the Rocher Theatre.

I encourage you to participate in these events, while keeping in mind our affected friends.

For any assistance requests, you can contact the town hall:
‱ By phone: 04 94 72 60 20
‱ By email: [email protected]

Finally, I would like to renew my thanks to our firefighters, the CCFF members, the farmers, and all the volunteers for their unwavering commitment.

Let us hope that this fire will soon be permanently extinguished, and that we will be able to fully enjoy this August in our beautiful village of Cotignac.

It was heartbreaking to see the beautiful landscapes we love, and the communities that make this region so special, impacted in this way.

A huge thank you to the firefighters, volunteers and emergency services who worked tirelessly to protect lives, homes and the countryside. We’re also thinking of everyone who experienced loss, disruption or uncertainty during this difficult time.

To our guests, friends and neighbours in Provence, we’ve been thinking of you all and are sending you our love. We hope the weeks ahead bring healing, recovery and brighter days for everyone.

There’s no big checklist of things to do in Cotignac, and that’s part of the reason people love it.

You can spend the day wandering through the old streets, browsing the local shops, stopping at a café, or finding a shady spot in one of the little squares.

It’s the kind of place that feels easy. No rush, no crowds, just a beautiful Provençal village that’s nice to explore at your own pace đŸ€

Built beneath a huge limestone cliff, Cotignac is often considered one of the most beautiful villages in Provence.

But what we like most is that it still feels like a real, lived-in place. You’ll find locals chatting in the square, markets during the week, and something interesting around almost every corner ✹
