Good roads, beautiful scenery and plenty of villages worth stopping for. 🚴‍♀️

Provence is a brilliant place to explore by bike, with quiet country lanes, vineyard routes, rolling hills, challenging climbs and some pretty spectacular views along the way.

There’s a different landscape around every corner, and always a good village café waiting for a well-deserved break.

Cotignac makes a great base for discovering it all, with plenty of routes to explore in the surrounding Var region.

Vineyards, w**e tastings and a wander around the countryside 🍇

There are some lovely vineyards to discover around Cotignac, many just a short drive from the village.

Perfect for a lazy afternoon, a long lunch or picking up a few bottles of local rosé to enjoy back at the apartment.

One of the many reasons we love being based here at Le Vieux Moulin; there’s so much to explore, and no need to go far.

Not everything in Provence is about lavender 💜

These clary sage fields usually bloom around June and July, turning the countryside into a sea of soft lilac.

They’re grown for their essential oil, used in perfumery, and make a pretty good case for exploring Provence beyond the usual lavender spots 🙌

Corners of Cotignac you’ll want to see 🇫🇷

The old streets, hidden passages, little squares, cafés, the rock houses, the Cassole river and plenty of spots that are easy to miss if you’re just passing through.

Take your time here. There’s more to Cotignac than the main street 💜

Planning a trip to Provence? Don’t skip Cotignac. 🇫🇷📍

Tucked away in the Var, this little village is the perfect place to wander, stop for lunch, explore the local markets and enjoy a slower side of the South of France.

Sound on 💦

Did you know you can refill your water bottle from the fountains around Cotignac? 💧

The village has 17 historic fountains, originally built to provide residents with drinking water, and today the public water supply is still perfectly drinkable.

So when you’re out exploring, bring a reusable bottle and top it up as you go. Much better than buying a new plastic bottle every time you get thirsty.

Just check the fountain for a drinking-water sign before filling up 🙌
