The food challenge this week was Soupine de Pied Porc or pigs trotters. Lunch out at L'Auberge de Mesnil Rogues with friends and a very traditional Menu Normande. Tete de veau (head of veal), Tergoule, grilled Boudin Noir all Normandie specialities.
This type of meat or viande is available in the supermarkets for every day consumption.

Last Sunday Arthur and Jackie and NormandieFoodie travelled to Caen to see the local ice hockey team Drakkars (in French a Viking Longship) play Calais in their second playoff final match for the weekend.
NormandieFoodie's first time at ice hockey but one of Jackie and Arthur's favourite spectator sports. The best part was the Drakkars won 5-2 scoring 3 goals in the last term! 🇨🇵

Thanks to Qantas,  NormandieFoodie had a safe and enjoyable journey back to La Fromental via Perth. Just in time to help...

L’endive , appelée chicon dans le nord de la France et en Belgique, est une variété de Chicorée amère (Cichorium intybus), une plante bisannuelle de la famille des Astéracées.

L'endive se consomme d'octobre à mai, pour les variétés les plus tardives. La pleine saison s'étale de novembre à décembre. En France, 349 576 tonnes d'endives (racines et chicons) ont été récoltées en 2024, principalement dans la région des Hauts-de-France (source : Agreste)

Cette chicorée est toutefois usuellement cultivée comme une plante annuelle pour ses « chicons », pousses blanchies obtenues par forçage et consommées comme légumes crus ou cuits.

Contrairement à ce que son nom usuel pourrait laisser croire, cette salade n'est pas une variété issue de l'« endive vraie » des botanistes, une espèce voisine nommée Cichorium endivia L. qui donne les salades scaroles et frisées
