The Dordogne

Where the black bells ring across the valley
Where buzzards soar on a swirling path
Where the river meanders slowly yet peacefully
Where the we we birds chirp in the brush

Over the green hills lie hidden treasures
Caves where early mankind cleverly existed
Where two rivers meet at the base of a pretty sandstone village
Cobbles test the balls of your feet

Turrets, chateaux upon castle atop the hills
A long cycle up to gaze over the agricultural landscape
Red poppies in fields of barley
Sunflower heads gaze skywards

Like big smiling faces
Shimmering in the heat of the day
Plentiful trees of all kinds line the roadside
Providing much relief from the searing sun!
