Some winter vistas from our delightful little hilltop village, Crestet.
Often referenced among the most charming villages of France, though in our beautiful region, that’s like shooting fish in a barrel, as nearby Seguret, Sablet, Venasque and so many others are really worth the detour.
The upper village was restored by lovers of old stone, including the famous French architect Roger Anger, who renovated the stunning medieval castle to the highest standards of respectful contemporary architecture, embracing the silhouette of its crumbled walls. Ultimately, though, the upper village has been kept virtually intact except for a little cafe, unlike most other neighboring towns that are now full of tourist shops.
The spectacular views from the various look-out points reveal timeless landscapes that are beautiful even in winter, causing members of our team to spontaneously pause on their way to work and take these pictures.
Crestet is the last stop of civilisation before taking off onto the winding forest road to the top of our hills to get to La Verrière and Chene Bleu. Only 5 minutes by car, in the summer it’s a perfect walk, 30 minutes downhill for an ice cream or a coffee, and 10-15 minutes by bike, though your thighs better be prepared for the fairly steep trek back up our mountain (though we are always happy to arrange for an electric bike!😉).
