The guest-house "La Bergerie" is part of our small estate, known locally as ‘Le Petit Chateau de Marthe’, which is situated between Dissay-Sous-Courcillon and St Pierre de Cheville and only a 10 minute drive from junction 26 of the A28 autoroute, 39km from Tours airport and 48km from Le Mans.
The estate enjoys a hill-top position, which affords panoramic views across the valley of the Loir (a tributary of La Loire), and especially so from La Bergerie’s private terrace, where wonderful sunsets can be enjoyed.
Access is through electric security gates and parking is completely secure, private and level.
On the ground floor the accommodation offers a large kitchen with a gas cooker, microwave, toaster, Nespresso coffee pod machine, kettle, fridge-freezer, a well-stocked cupboard containing all the cookware required for your stay including china, glassware and cutlery. There is also a large kitchen table with chairs to seat at least six people for breakfast or informal dining. The kitchen leads to a large open salon or sitting room with a traditional fireplace stocked with logs, comfortable leather sofa, wide-screen smart TV, and a formal dining area with a large dining table and six chairs. Glazed doors open out onto the private balcony and terrace, which is ideal for al fresco meals and to enjoy drinks and dinner in front of wonderful evening sunsets.
Through an impressive hallway with a chandelier is an Italian style shower room with a toilet and two wash-basins. The steep stairs lead up to a landing with toilet and two bedrooms. The larger offers a double bed, marble top wash-stand, wash-basin, and a sofa-bed and a further single bed if required. The smaller is a comfortable double room, also with a washbasin. Bed-linen and towels are of fine quality for your comfort and enjoyment.
The main feature in summer is the superb spring-water fed swimming pool, styled in the shape of a ship called the St Vincent, complete with figurehead, shower and decking. Sun-loungers and inflatables make this a perfect place for relaxing in the sun.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds, where there are tables, chairs and even a hammock for their enjoyment. We have two very friendly dogs and there are also chickens (which are confined to their own paddock). We grow much of our own produce, which can be available to guests in season.
Most of the internationally famous Loire chateaux are within an hour and a half’s drive, some much closer. There are two major cycling routes, one along the river Loire and the other one in the immediate vicinity of our guesthouse, made by a large enclosed circuit with its farthest part reaching Le Mans, famous for its annual motor races.
The local town of Chateau-du-Loir is less than ten minutes’ drive away and offers a hypermarket, boulangeries, a charcuterie, bars, restaurants and a weekly market every Saturday.
All in all it is a perfect base for touring the Pays de la Loire region and for spending relaxing days enjoying the facilities.
