NARBONNE NOW FINES TOURISTS €150 FOR WALKING SHIRTLESS OR BAREFOOT IN TOWN 👙
⠀
Narbonne, a Roman city on the southern coast, enacted a new summer bylaw on June 15.
⠀
Going topless, wearing only swimwear, or walking barefoot in the town centre is now punishable by a fine of up to €150.
⠀
The rule runs until September 30 and covers key pedestrian and heritage zones - but not the beach itself.
⠀
Narbonne is not alone. At least 20 French towns now enforce similar dress codes, roughly double the number from two years ago.
⠀
The fine applies to locals and visitors alike. Tourists are by far the most likely to get caught off guard.
⠀
The mayor described it as a reminder of "common-sense rules related to hygiene and indecent exposure."
