Wednesday marked the beginning of both Lent and Ramadan.
At Parfums de Vie where we work hard all year round for dialogue, mutual respect and understanding, our shared calendar this year feels important and symbolic, a reminder that despite our different traditions, we are on a common journey: seeking God, seeking peace, seeking the kind of change that begins within and flows outward.
This year I enter Lent with my heart full (more on that to follow…) and I was deeply encouraged by Father Hubert’s words on Ash Wednesday:
“Jesus fasts in the desert. His fasting is love for the Father.
To fast with love is not to harden oneself.
It is to become free in order to love more deeply.
It is to share.
It is to make space for God.”
Whether you are entering Lent, observing Ramadan, or simply longing for more compassion and kindness in our world, may this season open our hearts and free us all to love more deeply.
Our broken world desperately needs people who will dare to love more deeply across the divides.
May we “fast with love” and may it lead to
more love in action,
more compassion,
more courage to serve,
more resolve to bring justice, healing, and peace.
