5 years since we officially went live with ZONE BLEUE on Booking.com and had our first guests. What a journey it has been, and it seem like a journey that never ends. We are always busy with guests, renovation projects or both.
Our barn has been one of the bigger projects. 3 years ago we were at the attic in the barn the first time, only to find a thick layer of compressed hay, branches and dust (and a few old coins now framed and hanging on the wall there). First phase was to get all of that out, only to find that the wood below was completely rotten and eventually it all needed to go. Creating the first part of the floor was the next and not insignificant task, lifting the entire floor construction over the old stable to level it out and insulating in between.
Since then it has been working on the walls, on the ground floor removing a layer of cement plaster and on the first floor a layer of regular old style sand/chaux plaster, cleaning in between the stones, and finally point with sand and chaux between the stones. All sounds simple, and it probably is, but it really takes a loooong time. So this has been a project to work on while we had a little downtime and the right motivation.
Once it was a plan to create a cafe and brocante there, now more realistically it has been to create a place of simplicity and calm, where you can sit and think about life and enjoy a local eau de vie (yes that’s what in the carafe) and admiring the canoe finally hanging there.
Will it stop there? Probably not, we have started sharing it with guests, and still hope we can follow through on another dream of having occasional live music there ❤️❤️
There are other projects completed we have still not share here but we will do later, some related to our guests and some just for Edith and me.
