The commemorations and celebrations for the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day Landings in 1944 took place, as every year, on June 6th. However, you do not need to be in Normandy on June 6th in order to pay you respects and you can visit cemeteries, memorials and museums throughout the year (although most museums shut in Jan).

Eco-Gites of Lénault is an hour from the Beaches so it is easy to spend part of your holiday exploring these important locations. For those who want to travel less then there are many interesting sites close to the gite. These include:

The Commonwealth War Cemetery at St Charles-de-Percy.
The Memorial at Montchamp to the French Resistance.
The 13th/18th Hussars Memorial on Mont Pinçon.
The Memorial at Le Plessis-Grimoult to a Polish airman.
The Memorial plaque at Lénault.
The US Memorial in Périgny.

You can find more details to these local sites in a blog post I have written and there's a link to it in the comments.

I've blogged again and I seem to be following a bit of a theme of how things got their name. The shady paths around the gite are currently full of foxgloves so it got me wondering how the plant got its unusual name. I'll pop a link to the blog in the comments and I'd love to hear your feedback on the theories.

I've written a new blog post and it's about how the department of Calvados, where Eco-Gites of Lenault is located, got its name and how we almost ended up with a vastly inferior name. I'll pop a link to it in the comments.

If you pack your walking boots when you go on holiday and look for walks through beautiful countryside then Eco-Gites of Lénault should suit you. We have curated a series of walks of various lengths that all start and finish at the gite and these are available on our website. Our local tourist board also has 10 randonnées (walks) which are all very close to us. In fact one passes our gate and several can be reached without getting in the car.

The pictures below have all taken when we have enjoyed these walks at various times of the year. Do you have a favourite season for walking?
