The views from Gordes are truly spectacular.

We left mid-morning and drove via Avignon to be in Gordes for lunch. There were few restaurants open, being before the official start of the season at Easter, but we found a lovely little place right by the château serving freshly-prepared seasonal traditional French cuisine: highly recommended!

La Brèche, dating back over 800 years, is adjacent to the fortified medieval château in the pretty flower-filled heritage village of La Bastide d'Engras. Only some of the historic defensive walls remain, so the south-facing village is flooded with sunlight for more than 300 days a year.
