Spirit of 1944 is located in La Cambe, in between two former temporary advanced airfields constructed by USAAF’s 9th Air Force during World War 2 in support of the invasion of Europe, A-2 Criqueville en Bessin and A-4 Deux Jumeaux. Both Advanced Landing Grounds were used between June and September 1944 and were the base of P51 Mustang fighters, P38 Lightning fighters and P-47 Thunderbold fighters.
