🇬🇧 A new chapter at Domaine de Bourrat! 🌿

Hello everyone! We are Arno & Joanne, a Dutch couple and, together with our four children, the new owners of Domaine de Bourrat. And of course, we speak English! 😊

Since September 2025, we have had the pleasure of taking over Domaine de Bourrat from Nick and Sara. We are excited to continue this beautiful story and begin this new adventure as a family.

From the very first moment, we fell in love with this beautiful place, its peaceful surroundings, nature and unique atmosphere.

Our goal is to preserve the beautiful and authentic character of Domaine de Bourrat, while also making some improvements along the way. The swimming pool, bar, sanitary facilities and access road will all be renovated in the coming period.

Bonjour à tous ! Nous sommes Arno & Joanne, un couple néerlandais et, avec nos quatre enfants, nous sommes les nouveaux propriétaires du Domaine de Bourrat. Et bien sûr, nous parlons une peu francais ! 😊

Depuis septembre 2025, nous avons repris le Domaine de Bourrat après Nick et Sara. Nous sommes très heureux de pouvoir continuer cette belle histoire et de commencer cette nouvelle aventure en famille.

Dès le premier instant, nous sommes tombés sous le charme de ce magnifique endroit, de sa nature, de son calme et de son atmosphère unique.

Notre objectif est de préserver le caractère authentique et chaleureux du Domaine de Bourrat, tout en apportant quelques améliorations. La piscine, le bar, les sanitaires ainsi que le chemin d’accès vont être rénovés dans les prochains temps.

🇳🇱 Een nieuw hoofdstuk voor Domaine de Bourrat! 🌿

Hallo allemaal! Wij zijn Arno & Joanne, een Nederlands stel en samen met onze vier kinderen zijn wij de nieuwe eigenaren van Domaine de Bourrat.

Sinds september 2025 hebben wij Domaine de Bourrat overgenomen van Nick en Sara. We zijn ontzettend enthousiast om dit mooie verhaal voort te zetten en samen met ons gezin aan dit nieuwe avontuur te beginnen.

Vanaf het eerste moment zijn we verliefd geworden op deze prachtige plek, de rust, de natuur en de bijzondere sfeer van het Domaine.

We willen vooral het mooie en authentieke karakter van Domaine de Bourrat behouden, maar tegelijkertijd ook een aantal verbeteringen doorvoeren. Het zwembad, de bar, het sanitair en de toegangsweg worden de komende tijd vernieuwd.

Onze verbouwavonturen kunnen jullie volgen via quel beau lot.

It’s been a little quiet around here lately. With the summer holidays and the temperatures, it’s not exactly easy to get things done. And to make matters worse, my phone was completely full, so there isn’t much photo or video material to share.

But I do have a little story I don’t want to keep from you.

On Monday afternoon, a dog wandered onto our property. No collar, but incredibly friendly and affectionate. We took some photos and posted them on one of those “found a dog” pages on Facebook.
The next morning, we took him to the vet to have his chip scanned. It turned out he lived just two villages away. Much to the children’s disappointment, his owners came to pick him up.
Because of the heat, we sleep with all the windows and doors open so the house can cool down overnight. The next morning, we woke up and found ourselves looking straight into the eyes of Jeff the dog.
Our youngest daughter thought this was a pretty good development, so the dog biscuits were already being dug out of the cupboard.
At the end of the day, Jeff was picked up again. Huge disappointment… but who knows, maybe he’d come back?

Well… sure enough, the next morning, there he was again.
Once again, he was picked up at the end of the afternoon.

And this morning, our little girl was wandering over the property looking for something, accompanied by a small dog and three cats.

No Jeff today…

I guess we’ll have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. 🐶

In the meantime, we’ve also been getting quite a few things done around the house. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been pruning and clearing things around the house.

The preparations for the kitchen have been done and the kitchen has now been measured up. We’ve also added an extra wall by the entrance, so you no longer walk straight into the house when you open the front door. Instead, there’s now a little hallway, with the staircase and, eventually, the toilet.

So this week I can get back to filling holes and sanding again. 😅

It’s slowly starting to look more and more like a real house! 🏡

If you emigrate to France, you’ll certainly know about it: violent thunderstorms, 23 degrees in November, -14 in January, floods, heatwaves with 42 dregrees in juin, droughts, forest fires, a flooded house, and goodby swing...

Als je emigreert naar Frankrijk zul, je het weten ook. Hevige onweersbuien, 23 graden in november, -14 in januari, overstromingen, hittegolven met 42 graden in juni, droogte, bosbranden, overstroming in huis en dag schommel....

So proud!
The children have successfully made it through their first school year. And "made it through" is the right phrase for those early days—spending the whole day listening to things you don't understand at all. But by now, they speak a little French; far from fluent, sure, but it’s a start. Their pronunciation is lovely, and our youngest daughter absolutely loves pointing out our mistakes. That’s bound to get worse—eventually, we probably won't be allowed to speak at all when she's around! 😂

Our eldest has just finished his final internship. It was pretty much the best week of his life. He worked on pastries and desserts with an elderly lady who stuffed him full of all kinds of delicious treats. He made everything in the display case at *La Petite Tonelle*. He stayed on-site—heading there on Monday and coming home on Friday. Before he left, he gave his room a thorough cleaning. Good kid!

This week, we made a few decisions we’d been putting off—regarding the pool decking, the kitchen... on to the next set of brain-teasers!

Trots!
Het eerste schooljaar hebben de kinderen goed doorstaan. Het is ook echt wel doorstaan in het begin hoor. De hele dag luisteren naar dingen waar je niks van snapt. Maar inmiddels spreken ze een beetje Frans, nog verre van vloeiend, maar het begin is er. De uitspraak is zo prachtig, de jongste dochter vindt het heerlijk om ons op onze fouten te wijzen. Dat zal nog wel erger worden, tot we niet meer mogen spreken in haar bijzijn ofzo 😂

De oudste heeft zijn laatste stage erop zitten. Zo ongeveer de beste week van zijn leven. Pattiserie, en desserts bij een oude dame die hem helemaal volgepropt heeft met al het lekkers. Alles in de vitrine van La petite tonelle heeft hij gemaakt. Hij was er intern, dus op maandag heen en op vrijdag naar huis. Hij heeft voor hij wegging de hele kamer netjes gepoetst. Goed kind!

We hebben deze week een paar knopen doorgehakt waar we tegenaan hikten. De bestrating van het zwembad, de keuken... op naar de volgende hersenbrekers!

This morning a cat was screaming, as if he was having a fight with another cat. No other cat in sight, but a fat beetle; the beetle had the cat firmly in its grip!

Last night I was forced to go for a quick ride on my horse. My husband was going to feed the horses in the other pasture. The pasture in the photo. He didn't see any horses, so he went looking for them. We didn't name this pasture Infinity for nothing 😂 I think he regretted his offer.

Vanmorgen was er een kat aan het schreeuwen, alsof hij aan het vechten was met een andere kat. Er was geen andere kat te bekennen, maar wel een dikke kever; de kever had de kat stevig in zijn greep!

Gisteravond moest ik even een ritje maken op mijn paard. Mijn man ging de paarden in de andere wei voeren. De wei op de foto. Hij zag geen paarden, dus ging hij ernaar op zoek. We hebben die wei niet voor niets Infinity genoemd 😂 Ik denk dat hij spijt had van zijn aanbod.

Gisteren was het wat minder warm. Ik wilde een pot thee zetten. Ik pakte honing uit de kast en deed het erbij. De thee schuimde vreemd. Het rook ook niet als anders. Ieuw, er zit zeep in! Misschien heeft één van de kinderen een grap uitgehaald?
De pot schoongemaakt, water gekookt, theezakjes er in, honing erbij. En warempel, wéér zeepige thee. Wat vreemd...

Ik liep de keuken in, inmiddels stond de pot honing omgedraaid... een bloemetje erop, niet raar voor honing. Behalve dan dat er op de kop, shampooing op stond!
We hebben ons slap gelachen en maar een glas water gedronken.

It wasn't quite as hot yesterday. I wanted to make a pot of tea. I grabbed the honey from the cupboard and added some. The tea foamed up strangely. It didn't smell right, either. Yuck—there’s soap in it! Maybe one of the kids played a prank?
I cleaned the pot, boiled some water, put in the tea bags, and added the honey. And would you believe it—soapy tea again. How strange...

I walked into the kitchen; by then, the honey jar was sitting upside down... it had a little flower on it—nothing unusual for honey. Except that, on the bottom, it said "shampoo"!
We laughed ourselves silly and just had a glass of water instead.
