Chateau St Victor la Coste

Chateau St Victor la Coste Holiday rentals. Whole Chateau for maximum 18 people or cottages for 2-4. Available on our website Chateau St Victor la Coste is magical. It is completely unique.

It is a private home decorated artistically yet flamboyantly ,with an aristocratic style not remotely like a hotel or other such venue, genuinely wonderful and esoteric. It is in a village untouched by tourism, sleepy and beautiful. Surrounded by Cote de Rhone vineyards and forests this is a world away from the excess or glitz of the Cote d'Azur for the more discerning Francophile, looking for a

south of France long remembered and not often found. It is situated on the border of Provence and Languedoc with balmy temperatures and wonderful local produce for gourmandes ! Local wines include Chateauneuf des Papes, Gigondas, Lirac and Tavel- literally on the doorstep so lots of wine tasting and vineyard visits incorporated ! This is a property for the connoisseur , the aesthete ,the more discerning amongst us. It comes fully equipped with all modern amenities such as adorable bathrooms, high thread count Eygyptian bedding, fully functional chefs kitchen ( Lacanche 3 ovens ) and fabulously comfortable beds but also intriguing gardens , with old deliciously scented roses, plumbago, hortensia, and jasmine leading to the old Castellas, and surrounding a stone pool 6m x 15m with columns and statues.

How lucky are we !! This has to be the best retreat ever hosted at the Chateau. A C Grayling Professor of Philosophy at Burbank University London and prolific novelist AND Jane Green also prolific novelist in a very different but equally interesting genre at the same workshop. We humbly in this presence provide the venue , the champagne, lingering meals and the fabulous atmosphere but is there a word to capture this magic? It’s something esoteric and sensed so often by guests who arrive and just sink into the unique energy, the experience of belonging to something special. Each and everyone of the participants in this wonderful event are present and valid. Curated by Lucy Lucy who is magic in herself - effervescent and relatable - this is one not to miss. Dates already chosen for next year 9 th to 12 th September. Contact Lucy for details.

Last night the rain came. Ominous rumbles of distant thunder had rolled around the darkening drum of ink dipped sky and hissing breaths of mischievous elves whispered malevolently in swaying cypress . Merlin stayed close nervously bleating and pushing his head closer for reassurance. We gathered in cushions and closed doors which have been idly propped open with stones for weeks during the month of heat. Petrified by the clash of lightning he sat upright and still as rain hurled to the dry ground bouncing back up as fast as it smashed the dry earth. And today ? a very grateful washed green garden calm once more

One of our absolute favourite weekends is coming up ! Once a year Lucy from Lucy hosts a wonderful creative reading retreat at our inspirationally beautiful Chateau on the border of Provence and Languedoc in the South of France. Thankfully the canicule has past and temperatures are a balmy 28-30 degrees , the pool heated to the same , and beds all ready for a new group to arrive. Lucy , a bibliographer from Australia, chooses an interesting assortment of books to pre read ( sending them out to the guests ) ready to discuss and suggests more during the weekend ,on a one to one profile session with each guest . The Chateau is so excited ! We have rose wine in the fridges and delicious food to tempt our readers but mostly it’s just the enviable chance to read undisturbed with like minded adults ,sharing enthusiasm for the written word surrounded by nature at its finest cosseted in an oasis of calm and tranquility ! We are already discussing next years dates as places go quickly as it’s such a treat !

Markets are an integral part to life in France. Most villages and towns will have a weekly market - some bigger than others - selling seasonal locally produced fruits and vegetables, homemade jams , local honey and flowers. The bigger ones have brightly coloured tablecloths , floaty dresses and loose linen shirts.Lively and convivial coffee or pastis served at a pavement cafe becomes a very pleasant way indeed to while away a sunny morning and a good way to support local producers rather than the huge supermarkets which are generally situated at specially designated industrial zones on the outskirts of larger towns leaving villages traffic free and more charming. Local mayors set business rates which encourage small individual shops selling artisan pottery , books and interesting crafts. It’s a time honoured tradition which hopefully reduces the encroachment of global commercialism and maintains a very precious way of life

Roses roses everywhere. Up early to water nodding heads inspecting the troops to the chorus of birds and the reverberation of the church bells bare foot luxury

19/05/2026

We’ve been concentrating on the back garden laying a new lawn and training climbing roses intertwined with sweet peas up old stone walls. Honeysuckle tumbles from above creating a tunnel and lazy cats lie on warm stones just watching.

It’s a glorious sun drenched twinkling day full of twittering trilling birdsong and a hum of hovering butterflies and bees dozily laden with honeysuckle pollen drunk on sweetness. Roses and nodding peonies underplanted with shy. violets and artistically painted violas vie for attention as frothy alchemilla mollis tumbles down stone steps and pink tinged daisies and purple campanulas peek from rocky crevices. After all our rain the garden has never been more lovely
