Les Bressettes - Gite and B&B

Les Bressettes - Gite and B&B Our Gite and Bed & Breakfast is located in the heart of the Dordogne near Le Bugue.

Les Bressettes consists of traditional stone built and beamed Perigordian properties set within peaceful gardens, grounds and woodlands of nearly four acres. The houses are over 250 years old, and retain all their wonderful character but now have all the comforts of modern living having recently been completely renovated. At Les Bressettes we offer a beautiful self-catering gite and a superb and c

omfortable B&B within our lovely home. Enjoy a glass of wine relaxing on the terrace, by the pool or in front of a roaring log fire (cosy for Autumn, Winter or Early Spring Breaks). Swim in the sparkling blue water of our heated chlorine free swimming pool where the water is kind to your skin and eyes - feels like swimming in warm silk. Sleep soundly in bedrooms where the ancient oak beams have looked down on generations of French sleepers. When you wake up you may just be lucky enough to see the deer nibbling the grass at the edge of the lawn, or hear the wild boar snuffling through the woods, catch sight of the pine martins and the red squirrels in the tree tops. As the sun warms up the day, see the lizards basking on the stone, dragonflies dancing over the pond and the multi-coloured butterflies and birds feeding.

Lovely Sunshine, Leaves out on the trees and Masses of flowers in the garden - fantastic!

Wow nearly Christmas! How very quickly this year has passed. Even though it is winter there are just a few flowers in the garden - starting with the lovely yellow jasmine, the hellebores and even a tiny little primrose to tell us Spring is coming soon.

Hurrah the start of the night markets when you can wander around a village or town and buy food and drink and sit under the trees to eat, usually listening to music. Our favourite thing.
First one tomorrow but we will go to the one in Le bugue on Tuesday. There are usually at least 3 a week in different villages till the end of August.
Concerts and expositions and so much going on it gets difficult what to choose

Love this part of France, everyone is made so welcome

Heard the first cuckoo yesterday afternoon, and the primroses and cowslips are a real picture.
Still plenty of siskins around so it must still be cold further north and no sign of the cranes yet

Sunshine and rain with temperatures up to 13 degrees - nice for winter
Lots of work inside though, refurbishing the gite bathroom.

Old tiles off, painting done and new tiles going on.
Only the new flooring to go down at the end

It will look lovely and fresh but not so modern it loses the character of the house.

We renew or refurbish something every winter - a bit like the forth bridge it never stops, but so important that each season our guests have a place to stay that they are pleased with

We were watching the birds in the garden and we are lucky to have both a Hawfinch and a Brambling visiting our feeders.
Wonderful to watch

Sorry I haven't given too much news for a while, but have been so busy.
Refurbishments on the way for our gite and our B&B to ensure guests have a great experience here
Still keeping the wonderful feel of the place.
Too easy to modertise so much that you lose the essence of the houses, but we still all want the modern comforts.
Hope everyone enjoys what we have done once it is finished.

Another night market this time at Le Buission
We had told our Greman guests about it and they had left quite early.
We were waiting in for David a guest who had been here 5 years before but bwas just stopping over one night on the way down to his fathers place.
Just when we had thought he would get in too late for us all to go, and maybe we would have a pizza out of the freezer he arrived, quickly threw his stuff in the room and off we all went.
Loads of food and drink later we are all safely back home
Tired but happy and full.
Bed is calling

Another night out last night - Marche gourmand at Le Bugue. Tonight a free concert in the old part of town - they just close the road! - so eating on the terrace of the Creperie to watch and listen.

Saturday night a meal in our own commune of St Felix, then on Sunday the annual Chasse lunch at Paunat - always so much food and drink and such a lovely time.

There is just so much going on

I haven't mentioned the Brocantes, the other concerts and other meals around and about.

Just love this area

Whilst the weather is much cooler than usual and a little more rainy than we would expect for JUly, it is actually still mid to top 20's.
This is the perfect temperature for so many activites, including canoeing. People are still getting a lovely suntan as the sun is strong here.

The garden appreciates the extra rain as normally the lawn is brown and dry, but is currently still quite green

Whatever the weather down here it is still a great place to be with so many village meals, concerts antique fairs etc that it is hard to decide where to go
