„Bukolisch und als in seiner Linienführung sichtbares Zeichen der langsam sich vollziehenden Lebensvorgänge gibt sich „Die grüne Goldverdauung der Kuh“. Weide der Normandie, Pansen der Kuh, goldfarbene Flecke um einen Wirbel gruppiert und Brandung des Meeres unter der Brise. Wieder einmal überlagern sich die Bilder, nicht im Sinne einer gedanklich-logischen Folgerung, sondern wie die Entfaltung einer Knospe, die durch das Bild selbst ausgelöst wird, welches gleichsam aus eigener Empfindsamkeit den Grundton Grün in immer reichere, das Auge berauschende Harmonie auffächert, Oktav um Oktav, Windung um Windung“, schreibt J.F. Mathey 1985 in seinem Buch über Hundertwasser.
Das Gemälde entstand 1957 in Frankreich und befindet sich heute in der Sammlung des Centre Pompidou in Paris.

“The Cow's Green Digestion of Gold is an idyll that also makes the slow working of nature visible, in the flow of its enveloping lines. It shows a meadow in Normandy, the cow’s belly and blotches of golden colour surrounded by a whorl of current and the rising of the swell in the breeze. Once more the images are accumulated, not as the result of logical deduction, but as something unfolding out of the greenery that is its keynote in harmonies which enrich our vision, octave by octave and turning by turning”, writes J.F. Mathey in his book on Hundertwasser in 1985.
The picture was painted in France in 1957 and today it is part of the collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
