Tales from Nouvelle-Aquitaine #107
“Être une fleur bleue”
The fields that surround our village are a patchwork of ploughed brown earth. Some ready for planting; some having been. The contrasting riot of yellow Colza fields stretch as far as the eye can see.
It is a fresh crisp morning. The sky is as blue as it can be. Skylarks soar above us as we wind our way towards the vineyards in the distance.
We pass the sheep in the field opposite with their new born offspring. Some just a few days old shaking their tails excitedly as they feed in the morning sun.
We pass a cherry tree in full bloom, its scent filling the air as we make our way down the old tree lined track. It’s bucolic scenery isn’t lost on us. One could easily imagine a horse drawn cart making its way towards the village.
We continued on across the open plain towards home. The path is rocky and sandy in part, sometimes we have found tiny shells and even fossilised amonites reminding us it was once part of the seabed many millions of years ago.
To our right a field of grassy wheat crop swayed gently in the breeze. It was quite mesmerising. A tractor was ploughing some way off to our left.
We spotted a French air force training jet tracing his route around the valley. We waved as it approached us perhaps foolishly thinking the pilot would spot us. He did. He tipped the wings of the plane as it flew by before passing over the ridge behind us. It was quite a moment.
Returning home our gardens are an explosion of cherry blossom, hopefully plum and apple will soon follow. The slow warmth of the sun has dried the early morning dew on the grass having had its first cut some days before.
This can only mean one thing. Spring has officially arrived.
Some of you may know that our dear faithful boy Archie passed away at home with us a couple of weeks ago. Krysia and I would like to thank our friends for their kindness. He has left a void in our lives too difficult to explain. He will be dearly missed.

Namely the Bluet- The beautiful blue of this flower, which resembles a cloudless sky, is the emblem of a tender and delicate feeling that feeds on hope.” We have that.
À votre santé! ❤️🍷🍷🇫🇷🇪🇺❤️
