We celebrated Rich’s 56th Birthday this week! ❤️ Surely he’s not 56 I hear you say 😉😂

What a perfect day we had. We invited ourselves along to help maintain the vines belonging to a small syndicate including our friends Danielle and Jon. Our job was to remove excess growth — fruitless shoots and side shoots that would otherwise crowd the canopy. It helps improve airflow and sunlight through the vines, reducing disease pressure and helping the fruit develop well.

Of course, no vineyard day is complete without a picnic. We feasted on delicious French bread, local Beaufort cheese and saucisson, enjoyed amongst the vines with views from Côte d’Aime across the valley to La Plagne. We celebrated with birthday cake, coffee and walnut, Rich’s favourite.

We took a break from vineyard work to visit a very small local distillery at Granier for a private tasting. It was fascinating to discover how they transform local fruits and wine by-products into eaux-de-vie and an array of liqueurs inspired by the forages plants, flowers and berries growing in the mountains around us.

The day ended back in the vineyard, clipping together the catch wires to support the rapidly growing shoots and keep everything pointing in the right direction.

Great company, deliciously simple food, beautiful scenery, and a little more learned about the vines. A pretty good day all round, very mindful. 🍇🍷🎂

We’re back home in the beautifully sunny French Alps after our post ski season holiday.

Today was a Team Love Staff Training Day 😉💥 During the ski season Rich changes the hot tub water every Friday evening after our Lovely guests have enjoyed their last dip of the week 👙🩲❤️ Meanwhile Julie oversees our Guests final Friday night Celebration Raclette Evening.

Conscious that if Rich were to get injured (🤞hopefully not), we need to be interchangeable! So with Guidance Notes Julie spent the morning emptying, cleaning and refilling the hot tub 💪 💦 Job done, task book ticked off!

Rich is back in the saddle today training for the Tour de France Étape 2026 in Alpes d’Huez. He’s hit the road a few times on our travels, having ridden the Chianti Loop in Cortona, around Lucca and now here in Ajaccio, Corsica!

Rich is wearing his Cycling Happy Socks today for the first time, a Christmas present from Julie, so here’s hoping they’ll bring him good luck for a great 5-hour ride in the mountains! There’s still pockets of snow around too ❄️❄️

Our inter season Lovely Travels have taken us to Corsica. We have been here on the island for a week, invited by our Lovely friends Danielle and Jon, to join them on a cycling holiday alongside their friends Michelle and Steve.

Our first ever cycling holiday, it’s been brilliant. Day 1 we set off in the rain, but Day 2 onwards the weather improved and has been just the right temperature for tackling the Corsican mountains. Beautiful Island, Lovely People ❤️

Once again, we’ve eaten very well, much needed after all the calories we burned during the day, laughed a lot and shared a great week together. Danielle and Jon picked excellent hotels for us to stay in and the taxis that transported our luggage around were spot on!

It’s been the perfect start to Rich’s cycle training for the three races he has signed up for this summer: Tour de France Étape, the Grand Fondo Marmotte and the Grand Fondo Col de La Loze!

We’re Hooked! Can we do it again next year?

We ended our fabulous week stay in Villa Sole in style! We hired e-bikes (Epic Bikes) in Cortona and spent Friday cycling around the beautiful Tuscany countryside. We stopped at a delightful Agriturismo called Via Della Stella en route and enjoyed their light 3-course lunch with wine tasting which was fabulous in their superb vineyard setting.

Later we ventured into Cortona for our final dinner at Ristorante La Loggetta which was outstanding. We were lucky to be seated in a delightful little dining room which we had virtually to ourselves. With a fabulous mural and funky lighting, outstanding food, beautiful wines and perfect service, we could not have asked more as our week with friends drew to a close.

Arrivederci Cortona, it’s been fabulous! Thank you Lisa and Stuart for inviting us 💋🍷

We’ve eaten very well over the last few days here in Tuscany!

Valentina came to Villa Sole and showed us how to make tagliatelle pasta and a rustic bolognaise sauce, followed by a fragola tiramisu. We had such fun cooking dinner, a great way to enjoy what turned out to be a rainy day!

From rustic we went gastro, dining in style at the Michelin starred Il Falconiere Restaurant just a short walk from our Villa. The delicious tasting menu and paired Tuscan wines were outstanding. The flavours, presentation and attention to detail was simply incredible, and the attentive service and setting made for a truly memorable evening. ❤️🥂

The Lovely Chalet company are on Tour! We’re delighted to be in Tuscany for a week, having been invited by our friends Lisa and Stuart to join them at a beautiful Tuscan Villa with friends just outside Cortona ❤️

Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely morning truffle hunting through a woodland strewn with Oak trees with Marchello and his two delightful dogs Olga and Zac. We were amazed at the speed the dogs found the truffles and it was fascinating to learn about the development and mystery that still surrounds this fungus.

We feasted on a deliciously rustic lunch with a truffle theme and spent the afternoon wine tasting at the historic Brunello di Montalcino vineyard 🍷

He’s been skiing around the resort in stealth mode for the last few days as no one recognises him in his new outfit 😂⛷️

That’s All Folks!! Season 6 has been a blast 💥

It’s been another amazing season and we’d like to thank all our Lovely guests for choosing to stay with The Lovely Chalet Company. Once again we have been truly humbled by the wonderful reviews and guest comments you’ve shared with us. It’s such a joy and privilege to allow us to share your holiday!

With lots of repeat bookings already, we’re excited to welcome many of you back to Chalet Marmotte and La Bergerie in December for Season 7. A BIG shoutout to Jessica and Scott who are coming all the way from Australia for a second visit!! We’re excited to welcome new guests too; the word keeps spreading and we’re looking forward to meeting new members of ‘The Lovely’ Family next season.

Here we are pictured in the vintage ski lift, the Peisey-Vallandry ‘Paniers’, which are being replaced with a new gondola next season after 43 years service. Don’t worry we’re not being replaced any time soon 😉❤️
