Welcome to The Normandy Inn at Le Val Borel, in beautiful Lower Normandy. We have recently taken over this establishment from the previous owners, and hope to run it as well as they did. Set in the heart of the rolling Lower Normandy countryside, there is good access to a wide range of tourist attractions and places of interest, including Mont St. Michel, the Bayeux tapestry, the powerful experien
ce of the Normandy Beaches and the military cemeteries. St Malo, Rennes, Caen, St Lo and Vire are also within easy reach. Within the local area, there are excellent walks and cycle paths. Being in the middle of the countryside, you will need your own transport. Whether you are after a weekend break, a week’s exploration or en route further south, there are ferry ports, airports and good road systems within close reach. We have four bright, clean, modern, en-suite rooms, catering for from 2 to 5 people per room. There is also a welcoming dining and lounging area, with access to a kitchen for those of you wishing to self-cater – where there is complementary tea, coffee and other drinks. Room 1 is on the ground floor, and has it’s own access to the grounds. The other three rooms are up a flight of stairs, and all have beautiful views. There is also a quiet reading area on the upstairs landing. Breakfast is continental in style, and can be served at a time that suits you best up to about 10.00(ish). There are some lovely restaurants within easy driving distance – we’ve tried most of them; ask us which we would recommend! If you don’t want to drive, and just want to relax, you are welcome to make use of our paths and woodland. Lovely secluded spots to sit and picnic, or contemplate the peace. See if you can spot the fish and newts in one of the three ponds – or the red squirrels in the trees. At night-time, take advantage of the lack of light pollution to marvel at the stars (on one of the many clear nights). Come at the right time of year and the dragonflies are spectacular. And then there are our animals; Tommy and Dennis, our donkeys love being fed pieces of carrot or apple by hand, as does our friendly goat Raja who wanders freely with our ducks and chickens. Although the animal sheds are out of bounds, just linger around and the animals will come to you. Children are very welcome here, and there is a large range of toys, games and activities available for them. As this is a traditional piece of Normandy countryside, there are risks, which parents will need to be responsible for – ponds, animals, old buildings, open access to (very quiet) roads etc.
