The first thing you notice is the colour. Deep romantic red, turning spiced orange in the lamplight.

Then the painted cabinet, the old stone walls, the king-sized bed beneath a floor-to-ceiling tapestry, and a balcony that practically begs for an aperitif.

You throw open the doors, ice cubes tinkling against the glass, to sunset views of the mountains.

Oh, yes. This will do nicely.

Our original Alpine manor house is the oldest standing structure in Morzine, and has seen kings reign, wars fought and France changed and changed again.

It was constructed in 1771 during the reign of Louis XV by the original owner, Antoine Plagnat, a local Morzinoise and influential figure in Morzine’s slate mining industry. Morzine is a village built on slate, and Antoine used his mining profits to fund the original manor house. At the time, it was split in two: half for the family, and half for his herd of cattle during the winter.

You’ve come to know Hotel Coutettaz as your home-from-home in the Alps. But there’s one thing many of our guests don’t realise: it’s also one of Morzine’s most romantic wedding venues.

From intimate winter ceremonies against a backdrop of snow-covered peaks to summer celebrations on the lawn beneath the shade of the trees and our fairy-lit stretch tent, our hotel has become a spectacular spot to tie the knot. And it all started with a love story of our own.

Almost 30 years ago, our owner Dorrien Ricardo, met Di over the garden fence, and the two soon fell in love. It was only fitting that they chose the hotel as the place to begin their married life together. Their summer wedding was celebrated in the garden, surrounded by family, friends and the mountains they loved. Fast forward to the present day, and Hotel Coutettaz has become the setting for over 100 weddings, each one as unique as the couple at its heart.
